My father made our kids toddler beds, we moved our twins at 9 mo. They loved them, we really didn't have any other choices, because they were getting too big for the shared crib. I think they did great, they were just starting to walk, and my one son was on an apnea moniter and oxygen and I worried about his twin getting tangled in the cords and tubes.

Jennifer I believe we moved our oldest to big kid bed at 1 1/2....he is just barely three and in a bunk bed on the top bunk. The "big boy" bed that we put him in had rails all the way around to ensure that he didnt fall out. I think it really depends on the child, thier independance level (to get in and out should they need to come to you), and your comfort level (you need to be able to sleep thru the night knowing they are ok). My son was able to climb very well at a young age and had/has great balance--so again I think it depends on you and the child....good luck! Katrina

I think it depends on each family and each kid. In my home it has been right before another baby comes. The last few have 21 mos between each of them. The first 2 kid was 2 when she went to a big bed (twin), and my second was 18 mos old. We couldn't keep him in a crib, so we decided why not. It worked out well. If you think you're child is ready to move up go for it. If you both are happy with him staying in his crib then keep him there.
