i know wic in most places start giving vouchers for baby food and cereal at 6 months. but with my son we had to start him earlier cause he wiould eat a full 8 oz bottle with in ten minutes. the way it sounds he is ready to start eating cereal and baby food.

Most of my children started eating food when they were 4 months. My newest acted interested sooner so he started sooner at 3 months. I say go for it if he wants to and likes it. This is just a small amount to start with so it shouldn't interupt breast feeding unless he loves it and goes gunho. :)

They recommend starting solids at 6 months.

If he is getting all excited when he sees you eat than I say go for it. My son was getting like that around 3 months but I had to wait til he was 4 months (the soonest you can introduce food).

I started my girls at four months, although my youngest would never eat it...baby food/cereal is mostly to teach babies how to eat, so if he is interested, give it a try...he will still breastfeed. Most of his nutrition will come from the breast milk until he is between 9 months and 1 year.

6 months is a good time, he probably will need more than just breast milk soon. Also feeding is to teach them how to chew & get used to eating. Start with the cereal & if he does well go from there. I started my son on food at 4months (per doctor) he is 7 months old & eating 3 meals a day & cheerios now. He has done really well with eating, I hope you having as much fun as we have learning & growing as we are :)

If he can eat it off the spoon, I would definately try now. He should be about ready anytime, especially if he likes tasting other foods.
