Help please! My partners son is 3 years old. Last weekend he asked why he kisses me and not his mummy and why my our daughter calls me mummy and not Sammy.
He is so young and it was completely unexpected. Any ideas on how to answer this difficult question?

Tell him the truth. He is going to find out eventually and why hide it? It's not like you are doing anything wrong. Kids understand a lot more than people give them credit for. Dad kisses you because you guys are a couple. His mom and dad are not. Your baby calls you mommy for the same reason he calls his mom mommy. There is nothing wrong with your situation so you don't have to act like it in front of SS.

When my SD asks these types of questions we just change the subject because she will not be satisfied wil a simple answer and will continue to ask why why why. I don't recomend trying to explain this one to him he will figure it out later on his own. Unless he starts consistantly asking I would let it be or say "ask your mom".(I love saying that) My husband and I didn't kiss in front of my step daughter till after the wedding to ease the confusion a bit. Maybe the two of you should'nt kiss in front of him anymore.

Be as honest as you can, in terms that he will understand. Explain that Mommy and Daddy used to be married (or in love depending on your situation) and that they decided together that they weren't a perfect fit, and would be better as friends. Then Daddy met YOU and fell in love. So now Daddy loves (and kisses) Sammy. Explain that even though his sister has the same Daddy as him, she has a different Mommy, YOU. Each kid has one Mommy and one Daddy, and then the rest of the people are just extra fun!
