when my step daughter was four years old she was caught saying some bad words. My husband and I asked her about it and she lied. We put one drop of tobasco sauce in her mouth and since then shes never used potty mouth language. Did we do the right thing? My husbands ex seems to think that it is child abuse.

I was in this situation too last summer, we were on the way dropping off his two older children with his ex, and the ten year old started lipping off, so I happened to have tabasco sauce in the van, and I put a drop on his tongue and of course he screamed, he tends to overeact no matter what you do to him, anyways when we got to their mother's house, his son told his mother what happened and she came running out of the house pointing her fat finger right in my face and saying don't you ever do that again! Then I asked her if I should slap him across the face when he misbehaves like she does, and that just pissed her off so then she banned me from seeing the stepkids, he could only see them if he was in town for the day! and we live an hour and a half away! So for two months, their dad would go to their house on his day off because they weren't allowed to be here for the weekend, because she was pissed at me! That was all changed when i suggested we take the kids to the state fair! all of a sudden all was forgiven she is psycho, the stepkids seem to think they don't have to listen to me, and sometimes I can't wait until Sunday at three! Thank god weekends don't last forever!

my mom used it with my brother but it didn't work because he liked it!! I definitely do not consider this abuse in even the slightest form! There have to be SOME options left for discipline!! I mean Really, do we WANT an entire generation that doesn't have any sense of responsibility?

OMG- its tobasco sauce, not a drug. geez. Please tell me how one drop can harm a child. It just stings a little.

OMG-- did you ever think to talk to her about it and explain why what she said was wrong? That would be the logical thing to do.
If anyone did that to my son all hell would break loose...

Hahahahaha! The ex is being ridiculous.... If you had really put that much in her mouth, and she couldn't breath, and his ex waited a year to mention it, she is just as much of an abuser, because she knew about it and did nothing.

I was in this situation also. We had used it on my step daughter when she was 6 and called her teacher a not so nice name. Her father was going through a nasty custody battle with the kids mom. Mom called Child Protective Services and she also attempted to use it in court against us. WE won! Soap is considered child abuse, food products are not...As long as you dont make them chug the bottle obviously!

I think so considering it happened last summer. Shes just now bringing it up! She claims that my step daughter told her we put so much in her mouth she couldnt breath. Why is she bringing this all up now? i dont get it! shes a nut case

I think its ok. My mom used it on me. One drop on the tounge isnt going to hurt. Its going to sting for a bit. My parents did it to me (i was wierd and liked the taste of soap). Sorry, shes just looking for something to complain about.
