Hey! I’m a mum of 2 and I’m in my first year of primary education and loving it. Just wondering if it’s a four year course in other countries and if there are any other Mumma’s here studying teaching?

I'm glad to hear that it is manageable to be a single mom and a teacher since that will be me. I graduate school next year an am really nervous about how it will be...

In America it takes 4 years...some people go straight to a university out of high school or some people like me go to community college and get their AA and then transfer to a university for the last 2 years. I graduate next May and I'm soooooooooo excited!!

Im majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Global studies at UNCC next fall. I love teaching and have been teaching across seas since i was 21. Im a single mom with 6 kids and people wonder how i do it, i do it cause i love kids and because its my passion to see the young learn something new. Its not a career you take if you dont like teaching or kids which for me is a breeze so it makes my job easy.......

I'm majoring in Early Childhood Education where I'll get my A.A. next year, after two and a half years. Then I'll have two more years to get my bachelors, I'll technically be in school four years too.

I live in Florida and from what I understand it take 120 credits for any BA that you are attempting. So from start to finish it normally takes 4 years, full time, to recieve your BA. I have been in school since August of 09 and will graduate in May of 2013. I had a few credits moved over from a previous college I attended before I started with the one I am with now. I am getting a double BA. One is social sciences with education concentration and another in Social work.

Kylie - That's the same as it is here in Colorado. We have two classes in the first year that get you into the classroom to teach one lesson (the entire class is just helping you prepare for the lesson you will go and teach) and the final year is all practical work where you basically work as a teacher in your chosen subject - creating lessons, teaching those lessons, grading papers, etc.

It's 4 years full time here in Australia but he last year is nearly all prac work. You can do dip ed in 2 years but thats is after you finish your first degree. I think I'm going to be very well prepared when i finally graduate.
Full time is only 15 contact hours a week so maybe thats why it takes longer to graduate here.

I think certification is only 2 years in America. I'm getting my bachelors degree in Biology Secondary Education so it's a four-year program for me. I go part-time/full-time, depending on my family's situation each semester so I'm thinking it will take 5 years to complete.

Hi Kylie! It's a 2-year program for me here in California. Getting my single-subject credential and masters in education. It's tough going full time though, so it will probably take me at least 3-4 years part-time.

Best of luck to you! It feels like the toughest, yet most rewarding career path I could possibly go for. :)
