After 3 drafts (They kept telling me I was too opinionated), my article about student parenting and what the school should be doing for us was finally published in the UIC Flame newspaper. A follow up email to the chancellor and 3 weeks of waiting for a response has finally lead to an active proposal for the construction of a private facility for breastfeeding moms to pump their milk. I was sure that my message had been ignored and swept under the rug but apparently she forwarded it all over campus and they are really going to make some changes. I am sooo excited I cannot even express it! My son is turning 1 on Tuesday so even though he still nurses I haven't pumped in months but it's great to know that I could make a difference for future moms. Ladies, you have to make your voice heard! Let faculty know that parenting students are part of what makes a university diverse and isn't diversity what schools these days always seem to be striving for? Why should we be left out?
