Hang in there mommies.......I just graduated from RN school, but the work does not stop there....studying for the NCLEX is just as hard. I think its difficult because you have to be really disciplined to study without getting distracted by the house and family. I have a 3 year old now a year and a half after finishing nursing school. The guilt was the worst to deal with because you have to look into those little innocent eyes and say "mommy has to study" like they understand. It broke my heart every time, and now I can definitely say it was worth it as soon as I get liscensed.....UGH. Nursing school definitely is VERY challenging, but the sense of accomplishment when you are getting pinned is well worth it.

Quoting Diana:

Well, I'm not single, but I am a nursing student. I had my son in October 2008 and was still enrolled in school. I took 5 days off because, as you all know, if you miss a lot, it is very hard to catch up! I'm at a 4 year university going for my BSN. I have 2 and a half years left!! I don't know how you all do it with no help. My husband does every 'wifely' thing while I'm enrolled because he is amazing.

Same here Diana!  I give major kudos to single parents going to school!!!!  I helped out a friend back a few years ago (before I had children) because she was a single parent and needed help and I just could not watch her fail when I knew she was doing this for her kids!

I'm starting nursing school this fall, I just finished my Cosmetology Diploma/License, I know how hard it is to go to school full time and not have help, especially with a 17 mo. old. My husband has been overseas since May 2008, he comes home May 2009 and then he's going to Afghanistan at the end of the year in 2009, possible beginning 2010. I'm kind of grateful to be able to go to school because it helps take my mind off of my hubby being gone for so long.

In response to Joy- I do work and go to nursing school and am the single mom of my 16 mo. old little boy with Cerebral Palsy. I manage by doing homework when my little man is sleeping(and occasionally taking him to the sitter when I have something really big or important due) and only working enough hours to pay the bills. It's very stressful but I am sure that it will pay off in the end.

I am starting RN school this spring and well I have heard so many ppl tell me that I wont make it because I am a single parent and that it'll be too hard. I want this not just for me but for my son. I want a better life and staying with my sometiming parents is not going to help. How are you doing it? Do you work on top of being a mother and student?

I am going to be beginning my last term at the end of January and will be done by April...sigh...it's been harrowing with work: I have 3 different part-time jobs. Thankfully my daughter's dad also watches her...But there IS light at the end of the tunnel!! yay!

I'm in for nursing as well...I should be done 2 years from now (long wait lists in my area) and I have a 3 mo. old. Not looking forward to juggling yet ANOTHER responsibility besides motherhood, maintaining a home, work & trying to lose those last 10 lbs of baby weight.

Yes, I will be done with my LPN in March. Nursing school with a little one is definitely hard work! My little boy is 15 mo. old and has cerebral palsy. I also work about 30 hours a week.
