Every woman experiences pregnancy differently… boy was mine different! At five months pregnant I began experiencing pain like I’ve never had, searing through my right side. It was what both the emergency room doctors and myself thought to be a round ligament, but after several visits to the ER and no change, we began to think otherwise.
Once again I was hit with the same pain, this time causing me to almost double over. My mother rushed me to the OBGYN and he told us flat out what he thought was wrong. “If you were my daughter,” he began “I would have you in surgery immediately, my guess is you have appendicitis!” My mother and I looked at one another is shock, because I wasn’t exhibiting any of the symptoms. However, we put our full trust in my doctor and drove right back to the hospital.
I called my husband and told him the news; he agreed we needed to do whatever was necessary, especially if it could save both my son and my life.
Late that night I went in to have an appendectomy, to say I wasn’t afraid would have been a lie; I was terrified. Here I was five months pregnant and scared to death that I might loose my unborn son. BUT thank God the surgeon removed my appendix just in time, before it could rupture and hurt either of us. The surgery was a success and I recovered quicker than both my doctors or myself thought I would!
