I miss the feeling of being tattooed. I'm scared to get tattooed in case it hurts my baby and my boyfriend refuses to tattoo me. What are your views and thoughts about getting tattooed while pregnant??

Just my opinion but I'd like to think if you're going to get a tattoo you'll go somewhere reputable and clean. I would worry just as much about infection of hep b or other things pregnant or not. I got a tattoo while I was nursing (literally in between feedings) when my son was 4+mths. He turned out ok. I never even thougth of being allergic to the ink. What's the rush if there is anything I've learned in my short time as a mom it's that time flies way too fast. Before you know it babe will be born if not already.

A reputable shop probably won't give you hep, as long as the break out new needles and ink (which they should be doing anyway--run away from any needle you don't see come out of plastic in front of you), but you should probably wait to be on the safe side.

Hepatitus is almost unheard of in modern tattooing. You are more likely to get hepatitus from going out to eat. More likely is an allergic reaction to the ink, especially red inks. It's only 9 months of pregnancy, though, so it's not a long time in the end. Then it's your body again and you can do with it as you like. :)

If you are having your boyfriend tattoo you, make sure he cleans his tattoo equipement and buys all new inks and needles before he puts gun to skin. Even if the needles are 'cleaned' and have only been used on you, it's a no-no.

Not a good idea when breast feeding either. Mainly because of the risk of Hepatitis

Dont do it! Its going to be harder for you to heal and if you get an ifection it can be dangerous for baby. Also theirs the risk of ink poisoning in your blood and any infection that gets into your blood can hurt baby.

I would never get tattooed while pregnant or breastfeeding, and I don't know any tattoo artist that would tattoo on a pregnant woman. The risk of infection is not worth risking your child's life. I would just wait until after the baby and after breastfeeding (if you plan on breastfeeding.) =)

Because of the risk of infection i am waiting untill my pregnancy is over, they only last nine months, your health and the health of your baby isnt worth the risk when your looking at a wait less then a year

I don't think it's a good idea.

There is always a risk of a disease when being tattooed, pregnant or not. It's not that your artist would DARE do anything to you on PURPOSE...but the man who sat in that chair yesterday MIGHT be really sick and not even know it yet. Tattoo needles move fast enough to actually SPRAY a fine mist of ink and yes..the client's blood. That can settle ANYWHERE in the room. A keyboard...a doorknob, the crack along the edge of the chair...anywhere. It's a danger not worth risking.... when the stakes at hand is your CHILD.

Your body is stressed when you get a tattoo. Your brain starts pumping out endorphines while you are getting tattooed...and to some adrenaline junkies...that feels good. All those endorphines really DO feel awesome...but that is called STRESS in doctor world. Stress causes preterm labor. A premature newborn is yet another reason to just WAIT that 40 weeks out.

Your body is about to go through some HUGE changes. Is your new tattoo going to be near stretch mark zones? Often a wise decision is to WAIT until AFTER you've had the baby...and THEN use body art to COVER any flaws. I've seen a STUNNING belt made of flowers that wrapped ALL the way around this woman's waist covering stretch marks that wrapped all the way around her back too.

Personally, I wouldn't get tattooed while pregnant just because there is a chance that the baby could be allergic to the ink. It's like dying your hair while pregnant, potentially dangerous, but maybe not; but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Although the nine month wait to get another one does suck!!
