I know babies do things on their own time but I was wondering if there were any tips or tricks to get my son to walk? He will be 13 months in about a week & he won't take more then about 5 or 6 steps. We have a VERY small house so to he can reach from one thing to another in most parts of the house.

I've tried..
-getting him to walk from one person to another
-walk & play toys
-moving things a little out of his reach so he has to walk....

the list goes on...But half the time he will sit down & then crawl. Any tips?

My son is now 17 months and is walking. But he took his first step at 13 months right before new years day and he only started walking at 15 months. A friend of mine has a daughter who only started walking at 2 1/2. so its ok

do you have any friends with children who are walking? or a mall with a play place for small children? my son became more inclined to walk when he wanted to keep up with other children

my son in 14 months (and a couple of days) and he just started walking a week ago by himself, i think every baby is different. I did the same thing I tried to encourage him to walk and he just didn't want to but now that's all he does...

One day the switch will turn on, and he will just start going. There is nothing you can do that you aren't already doing. That kind of thing is spontaneous, and he is still within a perfectly normal timeframe for walking. My daughter did not start walking until 13 months, and it just happened one day and she never looked back. Every child is different, and patience is important. He will realize walking is better than crawling soon enough.

Laurie - He took his very 1st step around 10 months. Then a little over 11 months he was taking 4-5 steps. About 2 days ago he took 8 steps =]

Elizabeth - Yeah he is my 1st but I've been helping care & raise other kids since I 2 (I'm not 19). I know that sounds weird but I was making bottles & feeding them & by the time I was 4 I could pick up babies from the crib & carrying them around. The reason I'm asking this is because I know he can walk & he has proved it time & time again..but it seems like when "all eyes are on him" he sits down & crawls. So I'm trying to possible tips or tricks to get him get him to walk a little more.

please take no offense by what I am about to say but when I read the post description...my first thought was ..this can only be a 1st child

I remember I wanted my first to walk so badly ..I was just excited to see every new thing she did. When my 2nd was born I was much more calm...it would be okay with me if she took until 18 months to walk on her own ..which didn't happen lol

The reason being..when they start walking..you now have a small cyclone..not a child lol

enjoy your child not walking because soon you will be running after him.

How long has he been doing the couple of steps? If that is fairly recently then I would say just give it time. Those first few steps are the tricky part. Once that happens it will be a matter of days or weeks before he discovers that walking is so much faster and easier than crawling.
