Hi! I had my son when I was 18 and wish I enjoyed him more when he was little. I had bunch of dumb drama as a teenager also, but got away from it all. Now I am enjoying an incredible time in our lives as he maneuvers his youth, there is nothing greater than to set and maintain priorities leaving the garbage behind. I do wish I could go over all those mistakes I made back then during his years, Please keep me informed of your progress, find me on FB and lets keep in touch!

Mindy I never smoked, drank or did drugs before I found out I was pregnant, so please don't include me in that category. My husband and I actually planned our pregnancy and took all the necessary steps to ensure we were doing what was best for ourselves and our unborn child months before I got pregnant. MX T I'm glad that you're in recovery and I wish you all the best for a safe and healthy delivery and baby. Enjoy Motherhood, there is nothing like it!

Basically ONLY you can decide what you choose to do with yourself and your baby. No one is perfect and pretty much everyone was either drinking or doing something before they KNEW they were pregnant. It is one thing to find out you're pg and then stop all the drugs and drinking and it's another to know you're pg and keeping going with all the drugs and drinking.

Wow! Some of these responses are just ridiculous! Christina here is a link so that these teen moms whom you've given advice to and agree with you can educate themselves a little bit better since you're way off on that one!

And Alycia "Smoking isn't that dangerous although it has a lot of risks" what the hell does that mean? Of course smoking while pregnant is dangerous and has tons of risks! I read so may post from teenage mothers that ask "why do teen moms have such bad reps". Well here are a couple great examples!

I was drinking and smoking ciggettes (not very much, but enough) for the first 4months months of my pregnancy and Connor turned out fine. Smoking isn't that dangerous although it has alot of risks, the important thing to keep in mind if you are smoking is that you cannot quit just like thta you need to slowly cut back or the sudden withdrawl can harm harm the baby very badly. I'm not really sure if this applies to meth.
You should talk to your Dr he'll be able to answer all your questions.
How far aloong were you and how long did you do these things.

hey, i can't honestly say for sure if these things will harm your baby, but out of common sense, i'd say it would. Just look at what meth and drinking can do to adults, just imagine what a little baby that is still being developed would react to it. Everything you consume in your body does affect your little one some way or another. Ive never done meth but i have a cousin that did while she was pregnant and her little boy is hyperactive. I know most little kids are but he is over the top. I cant say for sure if thats the reason but i think so. I was drunk, high (on pot) and smoked almost a pack of cigs a day while i was pregnant, but at the time i didnt know yet, but the day i found i quit the smoking and drinking. I kept smoking cigs though, but i had to wean myself off of it. For being someone that smoked that much for 2 years, you cant get just like that. so i started smoking maybe 3 or 4 a day and worked myself down to 2 or 1 and then i would take one or two hits from my fiances until i was able to stop. I quit alot sooner than i thought i would because when i hit about 4 months the tiniest smells would make sick. Quiting is what's best for you and your unborn child, but i know how hard it can be. IF thats what you like to do then you could always go back to it after you deliver but in my opinion you should stop now and stay away from it. I hope your questions just a hypotecnically (sp?) speaking question. meth is bad news in my opinion and eventually things will go bad. goodluck with it all!!

Well since this is a very specific question and you're not talking in general terms I'm going to assume you have been doing those things which isn't good but I'm not here to lecture you. I didn't go to the doctor until I have almost 2 months left. I drank one time in maybe the first 3 months (stopped once I found out for sure), smoked through all but the last month or two (not looking for people to lecture me, i cut down but the shit i went through was too stressful to stop), and did one other substance I'm not naming because it's really nobody's business (I did it before I even missed my first period). They thought (based on ultrasounds) that my son's corpus collosum was severed (thats the thing that connects the two sides of your brain) and then they though he either has a cyst on his cerebellum or that he had extra fluid around it. It turned out to be nothing but it still scared the shit out of me. I can't say whether or not the drugs and alcohol played a part, that's just what happened with my child. It's really just a game of chance, some babies come out with problems and some don't.

Anything that you do within the first 8 weeks of pregnancy will not affect the baby whatsoever.. its like not connected or feeding off of you yet.

I do know that the 1st trimester is the most important, that's why you stop all the bad things you're doing to your body cause now you have a little one in you now. So it's not about you anymore, it's about your unborn child. Yes everyone is different, i know that. That's why its called advice, you either take it or leave it. Im just saying i have done drugs and i know what she is asking

Mindy that's not true at all! The first trimester is the most important! The first 3 months of pregnancy is when all the major development takes place. Just because your baby turned out just fine may not stand true for others.

yea once you stop at the beginning, things will be ok. But you will know for sure once you go in for ultrasounds and tests that they do, such as for downsyndrome and things like that. but don't worry.

hi there

well before i found out i was pregnant i was drinking and smoking heavily, as soon as i found out i stopped (i was 6 weeks). Theres no way you can tell if your baby has been harmed until your scans etc. How far along are you? All i would say is if you wish for a healthy baby dont do anything that may harm the foetus that means meth etc has to stop. I hope all goes well hun. Good luck with future :) :)
