I have 3 children, my eldest is 3 and a half, then i have another little one who will be 2 in april and i have a little girl who is 15 months. my first was a 36 weeker and was only in SCBU for 48hrs, My second was a 29 weeker, who had a collapsed lug require chest drain at 16 hrs old, ventilation, C-Pap, O2 support, blood transfusions, phototherapy and NG feeding, and was in for 8 weeks. then my little girl, who required dopamine and dobutamine for blood pressure, ventilation, C-Pap, then she became severely sick with NEC, had her large bowel resected, an ileostomy/stoma and mucus fistula formed, further ventilation, NG feeding, Blood Transfusions, and phototherapy, along with corrective surgery several months later.
I'm just intrigued as to wether any of you have had prem babies, and what your experiences were, I now want to go into Neonatal nursing and also wondered if this was an avenue that anyone would also like to take??

my now 3 year old was born at 35 weeks. with fluid in her lungs and jaundice. was under UV light for a week, and c-pap for 5 days. feeding tube for 4.. but she wasnt small! she was a big baby! well for 35 weeks any way. i had all the nurses amazed of her size, in the special care unti next to the tiniest little babies you could ever see. it was quite amusing. but after everything cleared up she was completely healthy and thriving. just a little bruised for a while. good luck with the nursing it would be great! go for it. xx

I was pregnant at 20 and had my b/g twins at 21. They were born six weeks early via an emergency c-section. They will be three in June and you can't tell they were preemies. Also have a son that will be one in July that I made it full term with

I only have one child, a 21month old littler girl. But my fiance and I are trying for our second. My little lady was born at 28weeks. She was in the NICU for almost 4 months. She was on a breathing tube, then c-pap, had a feeding tube for the longest time. She was jaundice for a very short time and was put under the lights. She ended up with ROP and needed laser eye surgery at 2months old. They had to put her under for the surgery and it took almost a week for the drugs to leave her system so she ended up back on a breathing tube which caused her to get pneumonia. She had a hard time breastfeeding and would stop breathing whenever we tried. She had bradys which they later linked to her having reflux. After everything that happened with my daughter it really made we want to get into social work. I had always been interested in that feild of work but after all the help the social worker at the hospital gave us it made me want to do it even more. They never did find a reason as to why I delivered prematurely and I'm really hoping and praying that I wont have to go through this again.
