My son is 11 weeks and the size and length of a 11 month old. He is healthy and normal weight for his length. I started feeding him cereal from a spoon when he was 9 weeks and he loves it. He does great with it and he still has normal BMs. You have to do what's right for your child. I'm 25 and my mom didn't have these rules for me and I'm competely healthy. Was an all state athlete and everything. I think parents need to do what they feel is best for their child.

I didn't start feeding my daughter food until she was 6-61/2 months old. She did fine without it. Plus, I breastfed and she slept right next to me so when she woke up, I nursed her for a few and she fell right back to sleep.

The things about feeding babies too early is that their digestive tract is not developed enough to tolerate susbtances other than formula, breast milk and water (only distilled never spring water). I struggle with thsi myself when my first was bron as she wa a big eater and I nursed alot all the time, couln't keep up. We went to see the pedatrician an that is what he told us. Now I'm a nurse and during my pedatrics sections I learned that Dr knew what he was talking about. We always doubt ourselves when our babies are young.

My granddaughter was starving it seemed all the time. Her mom was either breastfeeding her or someone was giving her a bottle, she just ate and ate.
So when she turned 3 months I suggested cereal and she loved it. There was little
resistance from the spoon and now at almost 4 months she gets cereal with a step
one veggie once a day about 7:00 pm or so just before bath time. She is very happy
now and has time to coo at us since there is not a bottle stuck in her mouth all the time.

I started my son a little early on cereal(with the push from my mother). He was about one month old. I never gave it to him in a bottle it was always on a spoon. He wouldn't sleep at all and i needed something a little solid in him. I have kinda let up on the cereal now(he is three months). He sleeps just fine now. Sometimes they just need a "rock" in there stomach to help them sleep.

i started my daughter on rice cereal at about 4 and a half months. i think it all depends on if your baby is ready or not. they say that their digestive systems arent ready for it yet, but my daughter didnt have a problem. good luck!
