Does anyone know if stripping your membranes will actually put you into labor?

I went into false labor last week, but they sent me home from the hospital until my contractions were stronger or my water broke. It has been a week already, and nothing has been progressing. My family doctor suggested that I come in tomorrow to get my membranes stripped. I am 39 weeks and 3 cm dilated so far, but my contractions have pretty much stopped since they sent me home from the hospital and now all i have is really really painful cramps. Did stripping of the membranes help for anyone and mostly what i'd like to know is if it put you into labor? I'm really hoping this will work, it's been really painful over the last week and I just want to hold my little girl already!

just to give you an update, im still at 3cm dilated, and my doc has stripped my membranes three weeks in a row already and still no baby! this is so frustrating being over due!! i have an appt on the 5th of jan to hopefully set up an induction date, but i was really hoping she would come on her own!

Well since you posted this a week ago it may have already done the trick, but with this last pregnancy I was 3cm dialated when they stripped my membranes. I was in labor less than 5 hours later. Good luck!

Yes, it works. I had my membranes stripped on my second son and went into labor the next day. Just takes a bit to get started. You start out with bad cramps and from there you will usually start labor.
