i was in labour for uhm, i guess a totally of 18hrs...

i got induced at 9:30am, and my water broke at 3:00pm, then my baby was born Via C-section at 2:57am.

i got the epidural half way through, had real bad back labour...didnt hurt as much as the contractions...but i now get back pain as well.. : (

hey well i'm 17 i just had my son may 23rd, at first i was really scared but its not as bad and getting the epidural was nothing the nurses helps alot, but yeah giving birth is nothing just don't really think about it and all will be fine.

with my first i had gas and air... labour went very smoothly and fast as from starting contractions she was out just over an hour later.

With my second when i started to get contactions i was already in hopital due to medical problems and was taken to the labour suite at 6:55am and he was born at 7:15am had no time for any pain relief

and with my thrid i started to get contractions at midnight and she was born 3 and a half hours later with only gas and air.

All the pain goes as soon as u hold u baby in your arms for the first time.

I found all 3 of my labours very easy with not much pain as i was very lucky but not everyone isthe same .. good luck with your labour.

hey, i got the epidural and trust me, with the pain of the contractions you dont even feel it, the epidural is a god sent, i def recomend it if your scared of pain :P

My labor lasted 5 hours...i got lucky...fromn 2am until 7:50am. i had no epidural and it wasn't that bad. im 18 years old and was able to do it natural. even after they had to give me stitches i still didn't take meds...yes they gave me numbin shots down their but they have to no matter what when they give u stitches....its not that bad just keep breathing and take deep hard and fast ones. dont hold ur breathe itll make u wanna push n u dont want to hurt ur baby...good luck with everything...oh n i had my son on June 19th, so its been a week n im fine :) GOOD LUCK!!!!

I was induced and had no epidural. I guess it's all a matter of you and how everything goes. My labor pains weren't to bad until about an hour and half before i gave birth. I was talking the whole day and everything. I was in labor 10 hours. And it only took about three pushes till i had my baby. Once i said he was coming, he came. the doctor almsot did not make it! At one point i thoought bout the epidural but i was a little freaked of a huge needle going into my back, so i decided to pass, and of course by the time i wanted it it was to late, but he came quickly. So i guess it depends on your pain tolarnce, and family history. If your mom had to push hard for you then maybe an epidural would be advisable, i dont know ultimaly its your decsion. if i have anthor kid i would do it natural again!

Take it from me get the epidural!!!!!!

I was in the hopsital for 6 weeks with pre-term labor. Every week I was about to have him. The day they were going to induce me, my water broke at 4:30 AM. They told me I couldn't have the epidural because they had to wait on my blood work, but I was in the hospital for 6 weeks and I know they had some on file. Then I went too fast and never got my epidural. It hurt so bad. They gave me fentanyl which is supposed to be 80x stronger then morphine, and it didn't do anything except for make me high. The pain is horrible and all my friends that had an epidural said it was amazing.

I think the little poke will be worth it. CONTRACTIONS ARE THE WORST!!!! I should know I had 8 weeks of them! (I was in and out of the hospital for 2 weeks before they decided to keep me.)

my labour was quite quick but i have a phobia of needles and im also terrified of pain and gettin hurt i would rather the pain of birth then a needle in my back so to me unless it was life and death a epidural was out id been told of people what they thought it was like but i hafta say dont expect it to be the same



i had just gas and air i thought once i was in the zone with my gas and air yes it hurt but i thought itll b worth it and as soon as she was out all pain had gone the only pain relief which actually stops pain is an epidural all the rest just tak ethe edge of it so i was told at antenatal



dont think about it just take your labour as it comes thats what i did just think about what its gunna be like afterwards

I don't know about drugs, I never had any. The thing that helped me that most was walking before labour, like... a lot. The pain isn't as bad if you think about WHY you're in pain, becuase at the end, you'll have your little precious baby in your arms. It's one day, one time, and then you have a gorgeous son/daughter for life. Pushing was my favorite part, it was the only time you can actually DO something, I pushed like HELL, and then it was done the pain was almost gone, and my beautiful baby girl. That's all that mattered to me.

The pain of my labor wasnt all that bad. The worse part for me was them breaking my water. I was alone most of my labor in the hospital. The last 5 hours my mom, aunt, and dad was at the hospital. I was nervous about getting the epidural and scared to get it, but when i got it wasnt that bad. Just felt like a pinch to me.

Everyones labor is different. My labor was 11 hours long and I pushed for 2 and a half hours. Yes it hurt, but it wasn't like an unbarable pain, where youd never be able to do it. I didn't even get the epidural. Just remember, when you get to the hospital, you only have a limited amount of time til your baby is here. =] Good luck.

i went with the epidural and now i have back trauma and i cant bend down for long periods of time and its hard for me to pick up my 6 month old and im only 18 and my back causes me to feel like im 40. Theres other reasons my back is bad also though. But the epidural is what finished it all.

But remember everything affects everyone differently!

oh yea and stayin @ home 4 as long as possible gr8 advice nichola i found all the nurses and hospitals and machines very stressfull i think its better in a more familliar environment :)

my labor was great...i have a higher pain tolerance but i made it to six cm before i got the epidural and it does hurt a lil but if you ask them to put the needle in during a contraction then you cant feel it...just stay as relaxed as you can and let your body do what it needs to...i would also suggust staying at home as long as you can and stay in the shower the whole time lol that helped me the most other then the epidural

on another note, before the epidural, i also had another pain med..can't remember what it was called...but it took the edge off a tad (and also made me feel high as a kite...still debating whether that's a good thing or a bad thing)

sooo, i just reccommend the same thing as debbie: make sure you ask about alternative pain relief.

i was in labor for 23 hours after 14 hours i couldn't take the pain anymore so i got the epidural.well when i started to push they turned off my epidural i pushed for 4 hours and i felt 3 hours of it.the epidural was pointless for me, and now my back hurts where they put it in.

I just had my daughter on june 1st and I have to say, though my labor took 23 hours and it felt like forever in the moment, you feel instantly better once the baby's born and it doesn't feel like you were in pain that long. I was nervous about the epidural aswell but it's definitely worth it and it doesn't take long for them to give you the needle.

i was sooo nervous when i was pregnant with my first of the pain and the epidural needle but it isnt as bad as you would think. i will tell you tho labor isnt the time to be shy about anything lol the epidural needle just feels like a little prick in your back, after you have have some pain in the spot they did but when you feel the labor contractions it will be totally worth it. the contractions feel like really bad menstral cramps. i found it helpful to try to keep your mind busy in early labor, try not to focus on the pain. dont be afraid to ask about pain meds either. you also may want to kill your man for a while during labor hehe but youll do fine..good luck!!!
