Hello, my name is Melissa and I have a 7 months old son. I need your help on this one. My mom and I have argued about this one too many time and my boyfriend support me on this one. My son doesnt fit in his baby car seat anymore. I thought he should get a bigger car seat such as Booster seat. Of course, my mom complained and said my son is too little for it. My boyfriend and I have read the coupon from Babies R US for car seat. It literally says, "20-75 or 100 lbs" and 19-27 inches tall. That should be fine for our son, right? He currently weighs 21 lb and 27 inches long.

A booster seat would not be apropriate right now...they are for older children to just "boost" them up and use the reg seatbelt like adults...a convertable seat however wich is what i think you might be describing are great for growing babies...we LOVE our britax marathon convertable seat and our daughter is ten months and seems much more comfortable than in her infant seat...we switched her at 7 months...they do have to be rear facing until 20 lbs AND 12 months...it's hard especially since our girl is tall i always feel like her legs are being squished. :( my husband is a paramedic and a child safety seat installer and they do checkpoints often at the babies r us and at the police stations so i would check with your local emergency providers and they can help you out one on one :)

If u havent already, i would say it was time to seek professional advice from mothercare or babiesRus-part of toysRus. They're very helpful. And your son can try out the different car seats in there. I have never found them pushy-like trying to get u to buy the most expensive car seat. They'll even come to your car and tell u if your son has outgrown his car seat or not. Deffinately worth a visit.

My son's legs are over the edge and he is very tall, too. His head is close to the top of rear-facing seat.

When u say ur baby doesnt fit, are the straps too tight now or do his legs come right over the end? Car seat specialist now say as long as your babies head isnt reaching the top of the rear facing baby car seat, then he still fits and is safe. And as we know our babies are most safe travelling rearward facing in a car.

Your son must also be able to sit unaided when moving into a forward facing car seat.

Your sons weight and age are a factor which determine which car seat is right for him.

Please, if u buy a new car seat, make sure it fits your car. Mothercare and Babies R Us will check this for u. As well as give you invaluable advise as to which car seat is best for your son. Hope this helps.

Yes, as long as your son reachs the weight and height requirements that car seat is safe for your son. Maybe get one that is reversable from forward and reverse sitting that way your mom may feel a bit safer? They say that you are supposed to keep kids rear-facing as long as possible.
