well i put him on parents choice milk, he was power pukeing, cranky, and wouldnt pooped. i solved all problems cept for the pooping situation! after 48 hour's he pooped, because i gave him everything n tried everything i could! Now its like hes not pooping again, should i continue giving him water n sugar? or do i need to change the brand of milk? Or is he just getting use to it, and i was told some babies poop less after they stop eatting the breastmilk, is that true? Any ideas?

They do poop less but they still do it quite a bit. What I gave me daughter was pure apple juice and water. I chose this because it was more natural than water and sugar. It did help lots. I would give her about 90ml before her bottle.
I heard that changing formula can help as some milk formulas affect babies differently.

if you put a little brown sugar in his bottles he will be ok. i had the same issue with my son and its just a formula thing they do not poo everyday but if it is really hard when he does poo n makes him cry use the sugar in all bottles for a week or so n try constipation formula! or coloxal drops

Oh my lord. Projectile or persistent vomiting is a sign of allergy or intolerance. You are giving a cow milk based formula. Cow's milk contains very large proteins (after all, it's meant for a baby cow with a 4 chambered stomach - your baby only has one).

These large proteins appear to the body to be an invader, so it reacts... hence vomiting, tummy pains, constipation, gas.

Or it could be the lactose. Either way, you need to switch formulas.

You are only covering up or 'putting a bandaid' over the real problem if you are giving sugar water. Do not do this. This is not good for baby. Neither is orange juice! I cannot believe a midwife recommended this. Babies are highly sensitive to citrus, and some are full on allergic.

The best thing you should ever do for a constipated baby is give a bottom massage or wipe their anus (to get the smoothe muscle to contract - this is what causes food to move through the digestive tract)

The safest route to go would be something like Enfamil's Nutramigen (can get at the grocery) or Nutramigen AA (order at pharmacy). 50 percent of babies with dairy sensitivity will be sensitive to soy as well. Why yo-yo your baby around unnecessarily?

Why did you stop breastfeeding, may I ask? It really is the perfect food.

Remeber don't give your baby any solid food before the age of 4 months and its recommended to wait until 6 months if you can.

when i put my son onto his formula milk after breast feeding he didnt poop for a week but my midwife recommended putting a drop of pure orange juice into some cool boiled water and giving that to him. he pooped a day later and now its back to normal. sometimes the change of milk can be the problem but it settles itself after awhile

Its normal for formula feed babys to get constapated never give your baby anything to help them pass a poo (so don't give sugar and water, its bad for them too) with out a docters approval as it can cause bowel weakness later on in life which mean the muscle are to weak to push a poo out. Its completely normal for a young baby not to poo for upto 3 days.

my doc said its normal for a formula feed baby o go 1-3 days without pooping as long as they arent crying bc of it with a tummy ache...i was also told if they were to giv them a tablespoon of kayro syrup in a 4ox bottle and by the next day it should hav worked and the syrup and water arent harmful to the baby

i had the same problem with the pooping i did the sugar and water thing and after a while she no longer needed it and yes it is true that ocne they stop having breast milk they dont poop as much my daughter went from 3 poops a day when i was beastfeed to one a day on formula. So dont be to worryed but if you are i will advise you to go and see your meturnal health nurse.

And good luck i am sure you will work it out!!

I had the same problem =] is it formula? If you water it down by about 10mls or so, it should help.. if not change milk. You can ask your doctor or babyclub nurse.

Also, I thought it was the other way around.. the breast milk they can not poop for days and be fine but formula they get a bit constipated..

Also if he has a problem with burping you can buy 'infacol' from your chemist, or even a supermarket I think..

Hope I have been helpful =]

My son stopped pooing as much after we switched to formula. I spoke with the pediatrician about what is normal and what is not and they really eased all my concerns. Constipation does happen, however, and is something you need to be on the lookout for. Just talk to the pediatrician and I am sure they will be able to answer any questions or concerns you have.

i wouldn't be too concerned about it. i dont remember how my son was after i stopped breastfeeding but i would worry too much but if he still wont poop after a week call the doctor. try apple sauce, bananas, prunes
