hi, im 18 and i have 2 girls and a boy on the way...

and im a very proud mummy...

i have overcome the shame that people had put upon me, wen im out shopping with my lil girls, theres one thing im sooo sick off, its dat mature aged mothers dunt understand that young mothers would want their childrens with good things too, i have sooo many couples/ womens that turned and stares wen i push my daughter in a phil and teds vibe, or carry her in a baby bjorn synergy carrier, or walking into brand clothes shop for the bubs... it annoys me, and when im in a shop the retailers just kept staring and telling me the price on wotever item im holding , its like i cannot afford it and planning to steal it.... i hardly spend money on myself and usually im at home, the money i recieved for my childrens, is FOR MY CHILDRENS!

why does it have to be brand name stuff? seriously? whos to say that the clothes from target/bigw/kmart n stuff like that arent JUST as good? Ya know just because your paying more for it doesnt mean its better than the rest, just means people are dumb enough to think that... something i like to call 'sheep.' Now dont get me wrong, i can afford to go out and buy pumpkin patch and all those other 'brand name' clothing but I chose not to because in my eyes your children will grow up just wanting all the expensive non needed crap. Whats going to happen when your getting less money and have to start paying for school fees, uniforms, books and stationary, uniforms and so on and then realise oh crap we cant afford to go out and buy those etnies shoes and billabong bang (that WILL cost you at least $150 in total) Your child is going to be used to that kinda stuff and will chuck up the BIGGEST teenage hissy fit you will ever see!

First of all I don't understand what some of you mean by you get paid for your children. Do you mean child support or what? Anyway if you earn this money or its support from their father, you have the right to buy them what you want. But I agree with what some of the others have said. Babies outgrow clothes so fast that it is a waste of money to spend a fortune on a few items. I just hope you are maybe passing these clothes on to others who can get some more use out of them. I feel there are plenty of other things babies and children need beside expensive clothes that the money can be going towards. I want my kids to look nice, but they can do so without spending an excessive amount of money. But if its your money and you want to spend it that way then its your buisness and not those other people making it theirs.

You know, I've never really noticed this. It's good that you buy quality items for your baby. There are a lot of people out there who go to the thrift store and buy tattered, ugly items that have gone out of style 10 years ago. Not that I'm against used goods, but when you're cheaping out on your kids so you have more money for beer and cigarettes that's kind of an issue in my eyes.

I couldn't care less.. as long as your child is clean and happy what does it matter what they have on there feet.. I would rather put that money away or spend it on thigs that are necissary then waste it.. I couple of things are nice but I shop at target, big w and that and get the nice cheaper clothes that I know look nice but dont cost a fortune.. the funny thing is a lot of the money prob comes from the baby bonus or parenting payments, what happens when it stops?? it'll be a rude shock

psh, i think its stupid that people are judging you. but seriously. im a young mum, can afford all the brand name clothes and things but WHY. its fucked, they will grow out of it before long and there goes that $30 top he didnt even wear for long. ive got a bank account for my son and all the money i save on buying nice non brand named clothes and such goes in there. his already got 2 grand! and his only almost 5 months! and thats not including the money ive got saved in MY account. i think he would rather that money when his older then brand named shoes he wore when he was a baby and cant even remember. its more for the mums sake then the babies! do you really think he or she will care! dont get my wrong i have a few really expensive things, but thats enough for me. but whatever floats your boat, not my money :)

Quoting Kayla:

Oh I know how you feel.
I get those every time I walk into Carter's or Osh Kosh B'Gosh.
My baby is 8 1/2 months old and I'm 18.
I want my baby to have the best, just as if I was married.
Why should he have to suffer and get bad clothes just because I'm a single mom? He shouldn't. If I catch a mom looking at me, I just sneer at her and say "what?!" It's none of their business, and if I have to be nasty to get peace, I will.
Some little girl even came up to me, told me I had a cute brother. I told her he was my son, and she said I looked like I was 14 and that I was too young to have a baby!
I told her mother she needs to control her children better.

hi kayla, carters && osh kosh has very cute clothes, i brought a coulple of sets for my lil boy he's due in december,  i was alone for the 1st bubba and it was very hard, never had money cos her dad didnt care less than get stoned, its was very stressful to see that my daughter couldnt have what she needed...  so now dat im not with him, im am soo happy, i can go shopping and get wotever i want for my kids...

You have the right to buy whatever you want, whenever you want. People will always find a reason to judge others. Dont give them the satisfaction of knowing that they have upset you. There is nothing better than seeing their faces when you walk up to the till, pull out the credit card and PAY for the items that they thot you would never be able to afford.

i get that sometimes to. I'm 19 and i have two kids under two. it doesn't bug me anymore so much but it bothers my mom when im out with her. I'm just going to start wearing a ring on my ring finger when we shop. it'll be interesting to see how many looks i get then. my guess is a lot less. i spend next to nothing on myself and ever penny i get goes towards my kids. so i know how annoyed you must feel. just ask yourself "do i really CARE what they think?" oh and if the employees are breathing down your neck and getting too annoying... ask to speak with the manager and complain. i have before, i asked if they followed all their customers like this and if not then why they felt the need to follow me. they usually back off due to embarassment and your left to shop in peace.

Iysha: lol i saw those onsies before. they're so funny! i wanted to buy a maternity one when i found out i was having a girl it had a speech bubble that said "you think my moms a bitch? wait till you meet me!"

Wow, That sucks. I never get that...or maybe I just am too focused on my baby and the merchandise to notice. lol. Maybe it's because I shop at Target and occasionally at Babies R Us. =]

My fiance just bought 2 onsies for my daughter and the teller thought it was the cutest thing...one says "I (heart)my daddy...even though he's an asshole" and the other one has a barcode across the front and "made in Vagina" printed on it. He also got a couple cute skull beanies in pink and black and pink and white. He spent like $60 on that. I could have bought our daughter a new wardrobe with that! I am a cheap shopper. lol. He's the big spender =]
