my health visitor said i shouldnt potty train until my baby's 18mnths but i think he's ready for it my partner said he'd like to wait to keep the health visitor happy but he's been early on most things and he's started pulling his nappy off any sugestions?

I tried potty training my lil girl wen she was 18 months then again at 2 but was gud then went backwards and was more interested in playing at 2 and a half she took herself to the toilet , and only ever had one accident and she's now four , sane with night time , she was jus over 3 and I waited till she was dry for 3 nights and off it came,

try it for a few days if he doesnt start to get the hang of it leave it my boy is 2 on the 11th jan and hes only just grasping the concept of no nappy and using the toilet as wont use a potty

well he's interested in the toilet but he doesnt know what its for because hes never been shown, he pulls at the frount of his diaper when he's doing a wee. When he's done a poo he comes to me but he doesn't indicate in any other way. He's not dry during the nights at all yet though. so i'm still unsure but thank you very much for all of the advice.

Although he may be showing early sings of wanting to potty train, he still may not be ready. Like amelia said he could just like the velcro sound the diaper is making. Good signs to watch for would be having a dry diaper through the night, telling you when he has peed or pooed in his diaper, by either pointing or touching that area, and be actively interested in you going to the potty. You need to be very careful trying to potty train so early though. Many babes will regress if they are pushed to hard to use the potty earlier than they are ready. I would say if you are comfortable in trying then go for it. Make sure he has a chance to get used to the potty before you even try. I got my son a portable potty and the elmo potty doll with a dvd. He gets to play with the doll and potty before hand so he is used to the idea. He also watches the dvd daily. But beware it could take a while for him to even get the concept which is a good reason to introduce the concept as early as possible. Good luck and remember that most children aren't fully potty trained until the age of 3 or 4. So don't get down if he doesn't take to it right away, you have plenty of time!

What other signs is your babe showing? Is he interested in the toilet? My son went through pulling his diaper off too but it was just because he liked the noise the velcro stuff made.
He is 2.5 now and we are just starting to really get into potty training.
