i had to have the membrane strip (sweep) also. Its more uncomfortable than hurt and its really fast. And usually after they strip them you bleed a little but it helps to put you in labor. Good Luck

it uncomfortable, maybe a bit of cramping. but nothing compared to what its suppose to bring on. a sweep is when they sweep some of the mebranes off your uterus wall. i had it done at 38 weeks when my blood pressure started to go up and again a few days later. a week later i was induced. i know a lot of people it worked for. just not me. i was also only barely one cm dialated, only 38 weeks, and no where near labour ready. though i did lose my mucous plug.

when you get it done do a lot of walking after. that can help things get started.

My gyno did one because I wasn't dialated enough late in my pregnancy. They stick their finger in u (with a glove) and manually dialate you, it does hurt a little bit, but it put me in labor like the next day

i got one done on my last check up and that was a Thursday and i went into labor Saturday at 3am. So a day later basically. I didn't think it hurt all that much it was just uncomfortable.

Good luck

I had one done with my son. Some people call it a sweep or membrane stripping. They go in and check your cervix and while they are doing it they scrape and stretch the mebmbranes away from the wall of the uterus. It can help your labor to start and your water to break. A day after having mine done I lost my mucus plug (it's a huge clump of muccus looking stuff so don't freak if you see it, totally normal and can even have a little blood in it) . It helped bring on some contractions but I still had to go be induced. It is fairly uncomfortable. It's mostly a ton of pressure but it only lasts a few seconds. Sorry if this was a little TMI. Just remember to relax when she does it. It really helps. Good luck with your new baby!!
