Wondering about breastfeeding...?

I've been debating about whether to breastfeed and switch to a bottle after a few months, or go straight to a bottle... almost everyone I know never breastfed, so I guess I have a few questions about it. Like, do moms have a hard time getting their baby to transition from one to the other? And if you brestfeed, how much more often does your baby eat?

my son is almost 6 months and i'm still breastfeeding. he latched on perfectly the first time i fed him and he took a bottle perfectly. i think it all just depends on the baby. i breastfeed because it's the healthiest choice and the least expensive choice. but do whatever works for you :)

my son is 6 months old & i still breastfeed him. though last night he had his first bottle of formula for his last feed before bed to try to help get him to sleep a bit longer. i used to express sometimes when i needed a break but these days i have found i can't express as much. he also has been having at least one lot of solids a day since three months.

i'd recommend b/f to everyone but also it is up to you to choose as it is what you feel most comfortable with. :)

My son is 8 months old And I am still breast feeding him. At about 1 month I introduced formula because I didn't feel comfertable breastfeeding in public and I was told not to pump because I was producing enough milk for twins already. My son took to both of them. I would only give him formula though when we were out and about. He still takes both but is starting to ween more towards the bottle.
His pediatrician said it was good giving him both because breastmilk gave him what he needed but the formula also provided him with vitamin d which she told me doesn't go through breastmilk even if you are still taking prenantal vitamins.

I know people who have down just breastmilk and just formula. It really just depends on what your baby takes to best in my opinion.

oh god...once they take the bottle its hard to take em back...if your gonna breast feed and are goin gto school/work...PUMP IT UP ALL THE TIME!! lol.then there gettin breatmilk, its less time you have to spend having them eat 20 on one ok swwitch to the other...it takes a while for them to feed.a bottle it like 20 minutes tops.so much easier to pump and put it in a bottle so when theyre older they can use the bottle with ease and get your mommy milk.

All babies are different but can I ask why you would want to switch to a bottle after a few months? If breastfeeding is going well then I would carry on feeding if I were you. My baby is now 4 1/2 months and feeds maybe every 3 hours. I don't know what is easiest, breastfeeding or bottlefeeding but I think I would prefer breast as I'm lazy lol, especially at night, no thanks! Breastfeeding is obviously best and I think everyone should at least try it (unless there is some issue), but bottlefeeding is obviously a great alternative. I suggest researching it all in books and google. Also, my baby took to the bottle with no problems when taking expressed milk. We have the breastflow ones. If you start giving formula around 4 months though I suggest going straight to the cups and skipping the bottle altogether. Good luck for you new arrival :) x

I breastfeed my son and to me it's great. It allows us time to bond even more. It is also the healthiest thing for babies. They do tend to eat a little more often but thats because it is easier for their body to digest breast milk. And if i need to go out i can easily just pump a bottle for him.

breastfeeding is best i breastfed and was a full time HS student. They eat no sooner or later than a bottle fed baby. it wasnt hard to transition. but it took me 2 weeks to get her to latch on.

In the early days breastfeeding will be very often as your babys stomach is only the size of a marble so you can imagine how often you will feed, but don't let this get you down in the first couple of weeks because it does get MUCH easier. I NEARLY gave up breastfeeding my daughter and go to bottle but i then remembered how much i wanted to feed and i kept on going with it and it did get much much better and i am glad i did too. The key with feeding the first few times is correct attachment. Often mothers will have no idea how to latch their baby on which then results in sore nipples and then makes them want to stop-So learn how to do that before you have your baby and make sure there is a lactation consultant at the hospital or one near you that you can call on for help.
Here is an awesome link about the difference about formula feeding VS breastfeeding...it's not a rant about how "bad" formula is it is just simply put down in words the difference a must see even if you end up not wanting to formula feed. http://bellybelly.com.au/articles/pregna...

I breast fed my daughter from day one till about 6 weeks. She latched onto the nipple perfectly and then onto the bottle perfectly, it took a little bit of practise but not too much.

Personally I think the bottle is a lot easier but the breast is a lot healthier. In the end its your choice, try them both out and see which one works for you both

Everyone's experience is definitely different, it just depends on how diligent you want to be in making it work, because it can be hard! One thing I had to do that I wish I could have held off on was giving her a bottle early on. She had jaundice so they said she needed to bottle-feed. That made her not catch on to the breast that well :(. Giving your baby a bottle before she feels comfortable on the breast will make it harder to transition back and forth easily. Giving them a pacifier also makes it harder on them, because babies have to suck on a pacifier and bottle nipple differently than they do the breast, and if they aren't fully comfortable with it, then they will get nipple confusion ( and most likely prefer the bottle over breast because bottle nipples are easier to eat off of!). You should definitely wait a month before giving your baby a bottle, and when you do, make sure the nipple base is wide. When bf, your baby will eat more often than a formula-fed baby, guaranteed. My daughter ate every 2 hours or so. When you're bf, it's important to feed on demand to keep your supply and for your body to regulate itself. It will be hard and tiring, but it pays off because your body will start producing just enough to meet your baby's needs, it's really neat! That's why in the beginning there will be a lot of random let-downs and such. But by one month it should go away and everything will even out!

Sorry it's so long! lol Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to message me!
