tooth disappeared?

my daughter is almost 6 months old and she's been teething for 3 months now... last week when i put some teething gel i felt the sharp edge of the bottom tooth and i was so happy that it came through! i felt for it several times to make sure and than a few hours later my daughter actually allowed me to have a look and there it was shining white! I send a message to my hubby and friends, but next morning when daddy finally saw our daughter the tooth was gone and it still didn't come out it's been 5 days! Now everybody thinks i'm crazy.... but i am 100% sure that the tooth was out and i googled it and found that there is something called like floating teeth... anybody heard of it?

yes my son also had the exact same thing happen. Everybody thought I was crazy too :) But he got his first tooth fully in on his 7month birthday so I am sure your child has a tooth or more by now.

thanks to everyone... crystal, i heard this before, but i don't think this was it. because her gums were swollen before the tooth appeared and disappeared, but then for like 2 weeks they were not swollen, so it couldn't be that the tooth was hiding in the swollen gums. it's quite funny because i found 3 different theories from dentists - so it seems like no one really knows what it is and they're guessing.
1. gums are swollen and hide the tooth
2. tooth comes out in wrong position but goes back to reposition itself (doesn't make sense to me)
3. it's not the real tooth itself, it's like the baby has some extra tooth pieces besides the real tooth and the piece appears and than falls off/is swallowed. (it's supposedly the same thing like babies that are born with a tooth and it disappears and later the real tooth grows out)

well i think, but can't proof it that the last one is what happened to my daughter, because it was a small corner out that disappeared. could well be that it was just a tiny piece of tooth...

by the way, now we finally got 2 bottom teeth out and they stay!

my parents are dentist and they said permant teeth DO NOT go up and down because they are in the bone, however they said it can seem that the teeth are going up and down but it is actually the gums! the gums go up and down with fever and swelling....hope this helps

They move around a lot b4 comming up and staing up. my sons teeth do this 2 give it a few days it will prob come bck 4 good :D

My daughters eye teeth did that quite a bit before they came through. I'm going through the same thing with my 7 month old son. Gums swelling fever and goes away for a few days. Makes it hard on us and them. There's a reason we don't remember teething

If you never had your wisdom teeth play this trick you probably were not prepared for it, but teeth can go up and down.

I know a lady who her son had 4 sets of teeth that came in.

Yeah, before your baby's teeth actually come in and stay. They can go in and out many times before staying out.

i know that a tooth will pop through and go back in for a while before it actually stays through
