Stepmom gripe

Does your child's stepmom claim your child as her own? I hate when in public at my daughter's activities and I overhear stepmom calling my child her daughter. I swear she does it to get under my skin. My daughter this, my daughter that. She does have her own daughter, so I didn't pay attention at first, but then I noticed that she was talking about MY daughter. I bite my tongue, but it gets under my skin.

I'm a stepmom to a 3 year old boy. I often refer to him as my son. It depends on who I am around though. If I'm around his bio mom or any of her family, I refer to him as my stepson just to avoid the awkwardness. He has lived with my husband and I solely for the past year, so that also makes a difference in our situation. He has called my Mommy since he could talk and his bio mom knows this, so I'm sure she knows I call him my son. She may not like it, but it was his choice and in all senses of the word, I am his Mommy.

Your daughter is your daughter and that will never change. You should be glad that the stepmom loves her like a daughter and is proud to call her "daughter". You and your daughter will always have that special bond and nothing will replace that, not even the stepmom.

Forgot to add, at moments like these I remember, no matter what, she will always be my daughter. I will always be around.
