Can someone explain this concept in the Bible? In order for our world to become what it is, it seems incest had to occur? Is this true? If so, why was it ok then but not now?

Gen. 3:20: “Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she had to become the mother of everyone living.” (So all humans were to be the offspring of Adam and Eve.)
Gen. 5:3, 4: “Adam lived on for a hundred and thirty years. Then he became father to a son in his likeness, in his image, and called his name Seth. And the days of Adam after his fathering Seth came to be eight hundred years. Meanwhile he became father to sons and daughters.” (One of Adam’s sons was Cain, and one of Adam’s daughters must have become Cain’s wife. At that time in human history when humans still had outstanding physical health and vitality, as indicated by the length of their lives, the likelihood of passing on defects as a result of marrying a close relative was not great. After some 2,500 years of human history, however, when mankind’s physical condition had greatly deteriorated, God gave to Israel laws forbidding incest.)

Incest ... is a way of life still in many cultures. We look down on it but I would bet every singel one of us, traced back far enough, has a tinge of incest in the bloodline. I think when CAtholicism raelly started to take hold of the English Church, when the bibles began being mass marketed, some men, claiming to be holier than though and knowing God's true nature, decided what was right and wrong. It just went on from there - travelled through all the Christian faiths until it became widely accepted.

Incest is never okay. Never simply because Consent is always compromised in family. As for cousin... well that is sick but genetically they should be safe... and those relatives that meet up after being raised apart and don't know they are commiting incest... well once they find out they should end it. And nothing excuses parent / child incest... NOTHING.

LOL.. this is funny, I used to ask that all the time when my mom tried explaining the bible to me as a kid. If you think about it, there has been tons of incest throughout history. People married their cousins all the time to keep their noble blood strong.

Michelle didn't he destroy the people with the flood? Afterwards, with Noah and his family, it seems the circle would've started all over again.

It's just another one of the million and one inconsistences in the bible, which is why so many people are now choosing not to believe in it.

Good one but that is the reason god destroyed the people because they took advantage and it became something that was sinful and not the way it was intended. I think thats when it became a problem... Hope it helps. I will however reasearch and get back to you on that on.

There is lots of incest in the Bible. Adam and Eve, After the flood the only humans on earth were Noah, his wife, their 3 sons and their wives.... Lot's daughter get him drunk and take turns sleeping with him...... I can't explain it. I think it was ok then because God said it was.....?
