Hi Kathleen. I went through the same problem as you. I was unable to breastfeed my first daughter because she was tongue tied at birth. I was extremely worried about being able to breastfeed my son. He is now nine months old and still enjoying being a breastfed baby! It can be done. But, i will tell that it is not going to be any easier. It does hurt for at least the first couple of months, but then the hurt goes away and it becomes sooo much easier than formula. I mean, what could be easier than pulling a boob out whenever your babe is hungry? :) Invest in some Lansinoh (Lanolin cream for the nipple; it is an aboslute necessity) and some good breast pads (I couldn't have anything touching my sore nipples for a while; anything that brushed up against them was torture). Also, along with what Natalie said, you need to make sure you are drinking a ton of water. Every time you nurse, get yourself an 8 oz glass of water. And actually drink it. Dehydration can cause you to lose your milk supply. And make sure you are comfortable with latching before your leave the hospital. Most lactation consultants are more than happy to watch you and your baby latch on several times to make sure you have the hang of it. Most importantly, don't worry about it too much. If you really want to do it, you'll do it. And if you don't, your baby will be fine as well. good luck! and congrats on your second pregnancy!

Well, first of all congratulations!

I breastfed my daughter and i got told many different stories about breastfeeding when i was pregnant. I have to admit it is hard work, but a great way to lose your baby weight!

I know many people say that breast is best and i suppose in a perfect world it is. But women do have problems and it does hurt despite what any midwife tells you!

My milk began to dry up aswell, i was aneamic and my GP said it was down to that. So if i were to give any tips it would be to make sure you eat well and get lots of veggies down ya! (The greener the better!) To try and keep your iron levels up. Also make sure you don't stress about it as this can effect milk production, it really isnt the end of the world if you need to 'top up' with formula milk or even put your baby onto formula for good. This is your second time so good luck and enjoy your new baby! xx
