17 month old with high fever

My 17 month old daughter oke up very early this morning burning up. At that time I didnt take her temp but gave her some medicine. She woke up at 8:30a.m. at which time I took her temp at it read 100.9. Gave her more medicine at that time and throughout the day her temp has been anywhere from 102.9 to 103.4. Ear thermometers arent 100% accurate but at what point do I call her pediatrician? When I do call they tell me to switch between Motrin and Tylenol. Her fever has been steady all day. I dont think she has been without a fever since she first woke up in the early a.m. I am calling her doctor in the morning just to see what they say. Im just concerned because shes never had a fever so high and her poo r little body could fry an egg.

is she cranky she could have an ear infection my oldest had quite afew of those it's really the only time she had a fever with it reaching 103.4 i would say the doc should see her better safe than sorry

If it goes down some w/ meds and she's not getting dehydrated.... I'd wait it out for a few days before going in. It's always fine to call if your concerned though.

I don't tend to get concerned unless it hits over 104 though. Anything under 102 and I don't even medicate unless they are miserable or it's bedtime.

All that is for kids over a year. I do react w/ more caution for under one year olds. ;)

First fever arent always bad. They burn off whatever is ailing her. Second look for the usual problems such as ear infections and teeth breaking in. Switching really does work but make sure you stay on time. If in a few days her fever doesnt break then take her with a list of what u have one and her reactions. Last if she lets you just hold her and comfort her- she may really need you right now
