I could use some good 2nd birthday party ideas too. I need to start planning my twin girls 2nd birthday party. I have no idea what to do either. Good luck, I'll let you know if I get any good ideas.

My daughter's second birthday party was Hippie themed. I bought a huge Inflatable Ball that the kids could roll around and get inside, it was a hit. The party was located at a park with a "toddler" play structure so that the parents didnt have to be directly with their children as they play. i bought sidewalk chalk so the kids could color on the ground (easy clean up) and little tie-die beach balls. I used different color table cloths, nothing really needed to match cause we were going with the Tie-Die idea. For food, we hired a "taquero"- taco man- they bring all their own plates, the food, salsa, toppings for the tacos and charge by the amt of people that are going to be at the party. It was great cause nobody had to cook!! in the party bags, I put toddler friendly candies, nothing too hard, and silly straws. each kid got to take home a little inflatable tie-die ball.

Up until his 7th birthday (which was Chuck E Cheese) we always had a BBQ at the park for his cousins and his friends. We always figured, he won't really remember the early birthdays so just keep it simple with just themed paper plates, napkins, and cake. Now we started doing the bigger parties now that he is getting older.

I got my last birthday party ideas from http://bit.ly/hyyr7V. I went with a disney theme, set up a safe play area for the toddlers, then had the parents sitting around them. It turned out to be more of a social gathering for the adults, i met a lot of great moms from the neighborhood :)

I did a train birthday party for one of my sons. I had the best time making his cake. I baked caked in loaf pans and made three or four box cars. I decorated them with pretzels on the top of one for logs... I made there wheels with oreos... and added the number two candle to the top of one of the cars. I had a lot of fun! Also you could go to Familyfun.com and look up party ideas. They had an awesome carnival party theme with lots of second birthday party ideas...

I'm excited about a lion theme this December. My son loves lions. Maybe I'll invite his little cousins and we can all make paper plate masks to look like lions. And I'm trying to think of how to make a cake look like a lion, and a lion song... this will be fun. :)

I'm doing a Cars 2 theme for my son in October ... www.partycity.com have nice party decor ..that's where I purchased everything from ...and www.birthdaydirect.com has some games for the theme as well. I've included treat bags for the kids that included inexpensive toys and mini activity books they can play with during the party ..it'll keep them busy, the adults happy, and save some money. Also ...www.birthdaydirect.com have 5 feet tall - 8 feet tall cut-outs from the Cars movie that the kids can take pictures with ..the kit (includes the background and cut-outs of the cars) is on sale for $10 and the cut-outs itself (without the background) is about $4.99 -they tape to the wall pretty easily -decor & prop I spent a total of $82 on decor and incentives for the kids

we did an Elmo themed party.  I bought an Elmo Candle and had  a cake made and had them put the canlde on it.  then i bought balloons (from the grocery store) with Elmo.  My daughter loved all the Elmos, but enjoyed playing with the other kids more.  I think she preferred the playing over Elmo  - who was her favorite that month :) hope you have a fun second birthday party!

If you are inviting friends instead of family, meaning you have lots of little ones around, activity tables are a great 2nd birthday party idea. Cover a table with butcher paper, and then put play-doh out there. Kids like to create things. Then, they can stuff the container and add it to their party-gift bag as a bonus. I had a party outdoors and wanted to keep the kids entertained, so I had a play-doh table and a coloring table, plus a potato sack race... Keep 'em busy!
