My two year old son has recently gotten into this habit of running out into the road. I don't know what to do to get across to him that he cant do this because it is dangerous, i have tried spanking, and time out and ive tried to just explain it to him but nothing is working and i am scared to death that he is going to get hit by a car. Dose anybody have any suggestions on what i could do????

Put him in a cart, stroller or make him hold your hands and make sure you're hanging onto him tight enough that he can't get away.

Try having him on a harness. I've almost lost my now 3 yr old 4 times frm almost getting hit by a car. The 3rd time she wasnt listening and i was holding my 2 yr old's hand and 8 months preg with #3. The car went thru a stop sign and was going so fast, she was so close that the wind of his speed knocked her down. The 4th time she got out of her carseat, opened the door and ran in the parking lot. Luckily I saw her while i was getting the shopping cart and jumped in front of the car. That scared her and from then on shes afriad of parking lots and anywhere theres cars. I used to have her on a leash but then she got better but after that I put her back on the harness. My 2 yr old got into the same habit. I got in the habit of giving them a brieifing everytime we went out. When I put on her shoes I tell her "We're going out now. It's very important that you stay near mommy. Theres a lot of cars and theyre very dangerous." I have them repeat what I said. Once we get to our destination, while I'm unbuckling them I repeat the same briefing. I'd say after a few weeks of consistantly doing just that I havn't had any problems since.
So the harness + briefings. I hope that helps.
