Any tips for potty training?

My son just turned 4 this weekend and is half potty trained. He will go poop when he feels the urge, but will only pee in the potty if we remind him or physically take him to the potty. I've tried bribes, praise, character undies, etc. I'm tired of buying pull-ups. HELP anyone!

What about 5-10 minutes every hour or every 2 hours where toys are not available? It's "quiet time" or whatever - take the toys away, have him lay down calmly for a minute and then offer to try the potty? Accidents are pretty common when the kids are involved in something fun.

Trust me, he understands. Most times he says no or he's busy. He doesn't want to take the time to go. It's hard to be on a consistent schedule. I'm only home with him one day a week and on the weekends. He goes to my m-i-l's house one day a week, my mom's house one day a week and the babysitter two days a week. We are all trying very hard to get him to willingly go on his own.

Get him on a consistent time schedule (using a sticker chart is super helpful) and then slowly increase your time. So if he stays dry when you take him every hour, increase it to 1.5, then 2, etc. And when he initiates and goes, PARTY!

I never used pull ups - i went straight to pants and i think thats the main reason that both my boys were potty trained before they were two. Wearing pants shows them what it feels like to be wet. It might be worth while asking your GP as by age 4 he should be understanding what it means to go to the toilet on the potty. I used the gina ford potty trained in one week guide as well. I hope this helps x

whats worked best on my daughter is to let her run around naked! shes almost all the way potty trained, but if she is distracted and wearing a pull up, then she will not go to the toilet sometimes...if shes naked..she will! you might have the occasional accident, of course, but its helped us a lot! I also ask her about every 30 min to an hour a day if she needs to go potty!

My mother in law told me that she used to train her boys by sitting them on the toilet backwards and letting them play with little cars or toys on the back of the toilet...

its always important to remember not to get frustrated and yell/scold them for having accidents! my hubby did that with our oldest, and it regressed her potty training a LOT! took forever to get her interested again! When you physically make them sit on the potty, make it fun! sing songs, read books, etc... gl!!

Have you tried a reward chart?
