anyone had there kids tonsils removed

thankyou i will that's makes it's a bit easier  to decide because my son is allergic to penicillin so he can't have the stronger antibiotics anyway i just have to wait till he's better plus i want to get his adnoids check to.

thankyou all for your opinions i'm not rushing to get them removed but at least i'm aware of what happens and try to make my son more comfortable and try to prevent him from getting tonsillitis if i can thanyou.

I had my own tonsils out when I was little due to a recurrent sore throat. I STILL have sore throats, snore and have trouble sleeping, so I don't know how effective it was. I also remember being traumatized by being alone in a hospital at age 5 (things may be better these days). My brother-in-law is a Pediatric ENT (ear, nose, throat) specialist, and I asked him about tonsillectomies. He says the popularity seems to come and go. It was popular when I was little in the 60s, and he says now moms of teen girls are requesting the procedure. I would definitely ask your Pediatrician and an ENT for recommendations. Keep in mind that ENTs also do elective surgery, so check to see if they think it is MEDICALLY necessary. They'd love to do it for the money, but get a couple of opinions before you put your child through surgery.

I had the same problem you are having, the doctor wanted to take my son's tonsils out and he did. It may a world of difference, just be very careful, Christopher bled out 2 weeks to the day after he had his surgery and ended up in the hospital for 4 days!

I had my tonsils removed when I was little. Surgery was short, recovery was quick and the results were very rewarding. I had tonsilitis 13 times over 4 years before the doctor told me it was my last chance or they weren't going to take them out because I was gettting too old so I finally agreed to it and thank god I did. So much better ever since I had them out.

definitely makes a differnce. mine had hers out when she was 4. they took both the tonsils and adnoids. she sleeps better, eats better. she's only been on an antibiotic once since she had them done. it was an experience though. the recovery was a little more than i thought it would be , but she is great now. it was worth it.

hey lorraine, my 4 yr old neice had hers taken out and started sleeping better with no snoring. I also had large tonsils with constant problems throughout life. i am about to be 30 and had them removed in may. i sleep much better. the dr said it was so hard for me to go through because i was older. my neice seemed to be fine after a week, me on the other hand it was longer. I would say the earlier you have them removed the better.

My nephew just had them out he's 3. He also had his adnoids taken out. He sleeps much better. No more snoaring.......and because of the adnoids out he no longer stops breathing while sleeping. If your dr. thinks it's a good idea then i would go for it.

my daughter has had them out she has been great since she wasn't much of a eater before hand but now she is. It help with her sleeping as she would wake up during the night as well and was basically living on antibiotics poor thing as far as I can think of she hasn't been sick since. Best thing for you is to speak to the doctor and see what he thinks best of luck

hey lorraine if the doc will do them might be a good idea , big or large tonsils can cause more problems when they get older , but i think the doc would be the person to talk to
