My daughter tends to hold her breathe when she gets mad or thinks she is hurt but really isnt. We was at the nascar race and my friend was playing with her and she accidentally fell but didnt get hurt and started holding her breathe and turned blue around her lips. Dr says she will outgrow it but she is 3 1/2 now.

My kids never did this (thank goodness) but I had a friend who did. You just can't give into it, because it's one of those things that baby can use against you when she gets to "that" stage. lol I think blowing in her face is a good idea. That or pinch her cheeks together and see if she opens up enough to let some air in.

I have no idea if this will work... but sometimes it's good to try misdirection. Maybe next time she holds her breathe for more than a few seconds, make a big show of "Oh no! She needs CPR!" Lay her down and sprinkle her with kisses while you tickle her all over and see if that helps take the negative feelings away...

Oh my, my first born use to do that. She would either be really tired and cranky and any little thing would set her to crying and she would hold her breath and pass out. She did it everytime she didn't get her way or when she was ready for sleep. You have to be careful that when they do pass out they are not standing up or where they can hurt themselves. Ignore it and it will eventually stop.

Yeah, I went to school with a kid who did that when we were really young. She outgrew it obviously. And yes, if she holds her breath too long, she'll pass out and start breathing again. Not the best thing, but she won't suffocate unless something else happens.

She will start breathing again - it is automatic. And if she gets to the stage of passing out, her body will take over and breathe for her. Have you given her attention for the behaviour? Try ignoring it.

Yes, and it lead to seizures. He only did it a couple times before he stopped for good.
