My boy is 17 months old and has a wheat, dairy, and egg allergy (as well as peanuts and ground beef). We limit his diet because the reaction is severe. Doc says he'll grow out of it. His food is still mushy because of our limited choices. He eats gluten/dairy free crackers & cookies that use his teeth. But when do kids go off the mushy food completely?

Usually by the age of 2 kids start to prefer more solid foods but you could start introducing some more things now if his teeth are growing nicely. My son loved and still loves things like grated carrot and orange salad, cucumber fingers (remove the skin if he hasn't go molars to chew on yet), corn (cook up the frozen type or let him chew it off the cob if he can), little sausages (carefully remove the skin after you cook them). Shredded cucumber on his crackers or maybe even a little tinned tuna is nice. You could even do that on gluten free bread and make sandwiches cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Slices of apple with a drizzle of honey (if he can eat honey). You can make chicken soup with loads of veges but just liquidize half so it's still quite chunky. There are some great gluten and dairy free bran muffin recipies.....google is a great place to search for things like that. The great thing for you is that you can teach your son from early on about eating fresh and healthy foods because of his allergies!

well my son is 17 months too, he eats some mushy food, but i would say depending on his teeth and how many he has just start practicing with him with what you make him, and make him chew more and more than he will get the hang of it. My nephew has the egg allergy so he eats certain foods too.
