Our son is progressing on the toilet training but he wants to sit down to wee rather than stand up. I havent made a big deal out of it. Do any of your boys do this and how did you get them to stand up?

It's really common! Does he poop on the potty yet? Until he has that really consistent, it'll be good having him sit - oftentimes, poop happens by accident - better when sitting than standing!

My son is 3.75 years old. He's been fully trained for a year, but never once stood to pee until his father taught him in July. I'm a single mom and had no idea how to teach him w/out actually holding his penis for him... which I wasn't going to do, so when he went to spend July w/ his dad... he learned by watching his dad and his older stepbrother.

Sometimes he still sits if he's tired, but he stands most of the time... unless he has to poop too, of course,

Nothing wrong w/ a boy sitting to pee. It's less messy. ;)

My son is 4 and still sits to pee. He's not tall enough to pee standing up though, so I can't really let him know how it should be done just yet, haha... I'm sure your son will grow out of it. It doesn't seem abnormal.

I am really glad you posted this!! My son is four and likes to wee sitting down . He wont pee in the garden or on the beach. Grandpa and Daddy think there is something wrong with him not wanting to wee in public (they won't but expect him to). I have found all the repies encouraging! Thank you!

i wish my almost 2 year old would sit down cos he pees all over the potty/ toilet/ floor/ his feet when he stands up. take it as a blessing that he sits and let him stand when he is ready. if you want to encourage standing, let him watch dad or other male standing, put him in pullup pants and let him pee outside, help him hold and direct the pee. works for us.

Yes both of mine did. After they get the concept of when they need to go have daddy go with rthem to show them or funnier throw cheerios in toliet have them stand and tell them to sink them. My husband was gone for work most of the time so I kept a little bowl of cheerios on the back of the toliet for them to put in and sink. I won't lie got it from Rosanne on T.V.and thought maybe and it did work. I have 2 boys and baby sitted alot they all started sitting down that is why they put that shield on the front of potties. Don't worry he will stand up

I was reading the other day that they don't have good enough aim until they're at least 3 anyway and that sitting is perfectly natural until then. What I read did say that you can sit them on the toilet backwards to help with aiming, but the article said it really didn't matter which way they sat.

My son sits. It never even occured to me to teach him how to stand. When he does try pee goes everywhere and I don't enjoy cleaning it up every time he goes so for now I enjoy the sitting and he can sit as long as he wants to.

I am teaching the boys to sit. Heck their father can not even aim, how would the bathroom look if they all three peed all over the floor and bowl?

This is where Daddy comes in handy...get your son to watch his Daddy's 'technique' and he'll probably want to follow his lead. Another thing is get him to go in the bushes while you're at the park, or in the backyard...there's nothing more funny for a 3 yr old boy than peeing on a tree. My boy didn't really start peeing standing up until he was 3 or 4, its really no big deal.

My son is just starting to use the potty, but he sits down as well. I have read that this can be easier while they are learing because peeing and pooping often go together. So if they are already sitting it makes it easier.
