My daughter recently got off the bottle and started using a sippy (she's 15 months) but when she drinks out of it..a bunch of liquid pours down her chest and such. She's drinking it, not spitting it out or anything but it makes HUGE messes..she can only drink non water stuff at the high chair or the carpets would be ruined..is this normal, something that will get better in time?

No, it's nothing to do with the cup. The liquid was coming out of her mouth after she took a sip. She had a cup of juice and a cup of milk today and she hardly spilled at all. I think she just had to get the hang of it since she was only used to bottles..but she's been doing a lot better!

Sounds like the cup is not on right, or it is a cheaply made one (even the expensive ones can be crap).

Hmm, my friend's daughter did that teeth clenching thing, too. I can't remember what they did to make her stop. They looked around for different types of sippy cups, and anyway now that she's almost two she doesn't do it anymore. (although she's almost too old for sippys now, but they got a few months of peace, anyway.)

Elfrieda, I believe what she is doing is biting down on the spout so her mouth isn't fully closed. I was just wondering if this improves with time or what...she's soaked everytime she drinks a cups worth lol

Is there something wrong with the sippycup? Maybe she's clenching her teeth on it to keep it open and then not swallowing fast enough, so it all runs down her front. Also check the seal to make sure it's tight all the way around. It shouldn't do that unless the child is actively sabotaging it.
My son figured out that if he dabs his sippycup upsidedown on the floor, he can make a puddle! And then he gets given a cloth to wipe it up! Yay! :P
That was around 18 months old, so he never had unsupervised sippycup time except at night. When he started drenching his crib, he stopped getting it at night, too.
Now that he's two, he just drinks out of a regular cup most of the time. (he's not allowed to carry that around, either)
It's not really that strenuous to keep the sippycup on the counter out of reach, just you need to ask if she wants a drink several times throughout the day, and let her have it at meal and snacktimes.

It sounds like the cups are not lidded correctly, or she is tipping them too far. My son has never used a sippy cup, but that's what it sounds like to me.
