My 17 month old has acid reflux and has been on 2 different meds, he had a bad allergic reaction to the last one..so I'm obviously apprehensive to try any thing else..if you have any ideas they would be very much appreciated!

my doctor had me thicken my sons bottles with rice cereal to help keep them down. I do it with the regular milk now too and it seems to help keep the liquids down.

I used papaya for my daughter when she started having problems at 13 months. I would giver a little papaya before her nap and bed time when she started having reflux problems. Now she is 2 and I giver her papaya pills when she has problems. I myself have used the pills for years.

My little guys name is Owen too...he's had issues with food and eating since he was born but no reflux (he's got irritable bowel syndrome and a mild intolerance to gluten and he's also allergic to milk and milk products) so I know where you come from and how stressing it can get to make them comfortable. Good luck!

I've had reflux for a long time and as far as home remedies go I find there's a few that I really like and work well. When I get attacks, especially after eating something that made it worse I take a tbsp. of honey with a dash of cinnamon in it, works wonders. I don't know why but for your little one you could give him a tsp or 2 to start off. Eating apples (I stick to the Red Delicious) seems to help and drinking some peppermint or ginger tea (he's little I know so you could make a cold tea from it and see if he likes it, sweeten it with honey). I hope this helped a little, there isn't much out there but you could always contact a "Homeopath" and see if they would be able to recommend anything to give him! Good luck!

Hi Veronica, my little man has reflux too. He is just gone 12mths. Was on Losec...but recently weened him. He still gets reflux on occasions though. When it is very bad I give him a small dose of gaviscon (!), which appears to help. But if your child has had an allergic reaction to other meds it may not be appropriate to do the same. I also try to keep track of what he has eaten that appears to bring on the reflux and avoid it in the future.
