Does this sound like Croup?

i don't think the cool mist humidifiers work very good they don't let off any steam really. I use to have one i hated it. good to hear your baby its getting better.

Thank you everyone for your advice. My son did just get over RSV about 3 weeks ago. Today when he woke up he seemed fine. He just has a little bit of a cough, but his breathing has been fine all day. He doesnt have a runny nose or anything either. I did give him some motrin tonight for his teeth (he has 4 molars all popping through at once) and i figured his throat probably hurts too from coughing so much last night. I will keep an eye on his breathing and make sure he doesnt get worse. He's been sleeping for an hour now and so far i havent heard him coughing yet. I am temporarily sleeping in the same room as him for other reasons than him being sick. So, i can hear him breathing at night..his bed is only about 2 feet from mine. I think i'll try the steam in the bathroom if he gets coughing tonight. Also, do you think that a cool air humidifier would help? Maybe if i put it in the bedroom near him at night?

Hi April, I would definately take him in the doctor to rule out croup, and also to rule out RSV. I'm currently in school studying respiratory therepy and exposing your son's face (and airways) to the cold air can cause spasms and may make the cough worse.

I just took my son to the doctor for the same symptoms. The first thing they asked me over the phone was does his cough sound like a seal (I guess that's one of the symptoms) his was more of a barking, but come to find out that he was getting a infection in his chest that I caught just in time before it got to bad and could have turned into pneumonia. I would take him to the doctor it wouldn't hurt. With so much virus, flu's, and other things going around you can never be to safe. they gave my son very high doses of z pak (my son is 4 and has never ever been sick) so she wanted to make sure that he didn't get any worse.

My daughter always gets croup when she gets sick. We have always shut ourselves in the bathroom with the hot shower running or just wrapped up in a blanket and sat by the cracked door until she can breathe good. I did have to rush her to the hospital one night cuz nothing was working and they gave her a liquid steriod and a nebulizer treatment. It is always scarey when your children can't breathe. I believe the second and third night is the worst

The cough you describe does sound like croup to me, but could also just be a bad cough. My son had croup a couple of months ago and it was pretty scary for us. He mostly coughed at night, or if he ran around to much. I ended up having to take him to the doctor because his airways started swelling and he was having a hard time breathing. Sitting in the bathroom with the hot shower running helps, as does taking them out in the cool air. If you do the steam and then the cool air I've heard that helps best, I never did that though so I'm not sure. If he sounds weezy when he breaths I would take him to the doctor to be sure. They had to put my son on prednisone for a couple days so he could breath during the coughing spells. I hope he gets to feeling better soon, and just trust yourself on if he needs to go to the doctor or not.

my daughter just got over this. I took her to the doctor and they told me it was an upper respiratory infection they gave her an antibiotic. To help with the symptoms i used a humidifier and i put some vicks vapor rub on her chest and back. I also rolled up a big blanket and put it under her mattress so she slept sitting up it helped with her coughing so she and i could sleep. There is also a baby bath soap you can get. If you get johnsons its in a green bottle and it has eucalyptus in it and it will help him breath and sleep better. I hope this helps nothing worse than a sick baby. I never heard of taking them outside i would think it would make him worse cause the cold air.
