There's an autism community on here that might help. My son was preemie and I find it very helpful being a part of that community and talking to Moms that KNOW, and not just reading a book as you said.

I don't have a child with Autism but I do have a brother with Asberger's (Mild form of Austism). He was diagonsed in the 9th grade when he was doing a residental program in a hospital for his lack of social skills, He was misdiagnosed in the 3rd grade with ADD, It was really hard on my mom his entire life was a series of endless doctor appoitments. He's an adult now and he's doing great you'd never know there was ever a problem he's living with his gf, planning a wedding and working a very sucessfuly at his job, All because once he recieved the proper diagonsis. The specialists were able to set up a treatment plan that worked really well for him.

My son will be 4 this month and was diagnosed with PDD NOS. With therapies, things can get better. How old is your child?
