I'm going to be going through this process soon so wanted to read advice, but someone told me they got their little one to give the dummy to santa at xmas. So its like santa is giving you some pressies you can give him your dummy and say bye bye to it cos you're a big girl/boy. I don't know if it will work but the timing is ideal, maybe your little one can leave it out with the glass of sherry and mince pie?

When my cousin broke her son of the pacifier, she just cut the nipple of it a little at a time each day and gave it to him. He couldnt stand it not being like before and by the time she had cut the nipple all the way off *couple of days time*, he didnt want it anymore.

I started my son with just letting him have it at sleep times from the age of about 18 months. Then when it was time to get rid of it at about 2 1/2 it was "accidently" broken (I cut the tip off it) I only got rid of it at this point because he was getting a rash around his face, but would have let him have it a little while longer. We gave him his favourite teddy to sleep with instead, he pined over it for a couple of nights but still slept well, just took him a bit longer to go to sleep.

I have also heard of people giving it to the easter bunny, giving it to another baby etc but I think the most important thing is that they have something more appropriate to replace the 'comfort' with.

My daughter is 2 and we managed to to her to have her dummy just for sleeping until a few weeks ago and now she wants it all the time again, so would be interested to see what others have to say. When we did manage to get her dummy off her before we just took it away during the day, it was hard work at first and very loud in our house but she soon didnt seem to miss it, how wrong was I??!
