My son just turned a year old Jan 28th. He has had 4 treated ear infections since age 1 month. He just got off antibiotics a week ago, and once again... he is still pulling at his ears. I think it is even affecting his balance... he is falling down all the time. Please help!? Will he have to get tubes? should I suggest it to the Doctor?

The doctors have had him on antibiotics for the last 3 months pretty much...either from an ear infection, or just being sick. I am taking him to the doctor Friday to see what she says. Thanks for your responses!

I would talk to the doctor about tubes. He doesn't need to be on antibiotics forever. Plus he is probably starting to say word or will be soon and if he can't hear properly then it will affect his speech. I was a teacher and had a student that had this problem and had to have speech therapy because her ear infections went on for a long time before she got tubes. I have actually been going throught the same thing with my daughter she is only 5 months old and has had 4 ear infections. She has one right now. I don't want her to get immune to the antibiotics that she has to keep taking.

Ah oh sounds like ear tubes...my son had ear tubes 3 times! If you have to suggest it to the Dr. probably need a second opinion :/

Inner ear infections definitely throw off your balance. I once had an ear infection and was so dizzy and off balance that I couldn't drive myself home. I would take him back to the doctor and make sure the infection is gone. Talk with him about treatments to prevent future infections. Sometimes tubes will help but it depends on the child and the frequency of the infections. Hope he feels better.
