So Maggie battled the stomach flu for the last week… she barely ate or drank, so I was “encouraged” to increase my breastfeeding. Anyway, maggie’s on the mend, but is still refusing to eat or drink much of ANYTHING. Does anyone have any tips? I am at my wit’s end… I am probably going to purchase a bottle, to see if the novelty of it will cause her to drink… I am also planning to get out the cookie cutters to make shapes out of sandwiches… any other ideas? Thanks

When my daughters get sick... I try stuff like pudding, apple sauce in different flavors, jello...small cut foods like the apple bites that gerber makes...To drink both my kids like the propel water bottles or picking out their own cups from the store. My oldest like drinking soup from her cup... meaning chicken broth... does she take a binkie... their is the medicine ones that you can put juice in... I did that with my oldest when she had the stomach flu at a year old.

Those are all great ideas but they haven't worked for you huh? Just keep trying and another thing to remember is that their bellies are small so what seems like nothing to us is a lot to them. I always worried about my son's appetite too and to the day he is still not a big eater but I know if he is really hungry he will eat good or if it is something he really likes he will eat really good otherwise not much at all but he has maintained a perfect spot in the 50% for his weight for age and height. Your doing great keep it up. Linda

My concern is mostly because her weight was low to begin with and she's so tired. I know the tiredness is due to lack of energy/food... This is what we’ve tried:

Juice boxes (because it’s “cool” in the box)

Popsicles

Jello

A new/special water bottle

Letting her pick out a muffin at the store

Tried giving her a syringe full of juice (new/different way to drink)

Applesauce

Alphabet soup (because of the letters… she actually ate about a ¼ cup and now she won’t)

I will be trying shaped sandwiches, possibly jamba juice…

just make sure she is drinking. eating don't worry about she probably isn't feeling up to solids yet and thats ok. My son has been sick and hasn't eating much of anything in 2 wks even he favorite stuff he go bananas for. They know when their body is ready for solids. i know as a mother you want them to eat but it's ok if they don't when they are sick or body is recuperating from being ill.

When my son was sick with the flu at a little over a year old he didn't want to eat or drink either his ped. told me to push fluids other than milk (Limit milk intake because it causes phlem and congestion) if they don't want it anyways, but like pediasure flavored drinks and ensures if they will drink them until their appetite picks back up. This way they are getting in some nutritional intake. After my son was feeling like 100% better his appetite picked back up. I guess it is like us when we get the flu and don't want to eat or drink but drinking is very important to keep us hydrated. I hope this helps. Good luck Linda
