I second the Aveeno Soothing Moisturizing Cream. They have an Aveeno wash too. My son had eczema on his legs and I tried every lotion. I asked my pediatrician about hydrocortisone (since several people recommended that) but she said that can cause tumors and stunt growth so she was not in favor of that. She prescribed another atopic ointment (non steroid) that cost $140 and said to try mixing oil (baby oil or even olive oil) with a good moisturizing cream. None of it worked remotely as well as the Aveeno. Since I've started using that (3 times a day), my son's eczema is completely gone.

Hi Megan, I would first recommend changing your bath soap, shampoo & laundry detergent. Most brands use formaldehyde as a preservative which is first of all a carcinogen & is very irritating to any skin especially sensitive skin as those suffering from eczema. I would love to share with you a great alternative to these as well as all of your household products that contain caustic ingredients that adversely affect your families health. Feel free to contact me at 507-283-4754 or ndilly@iw.net. www.livetotalwellness.com/nicoledilly Thanks Nicole

Triamcinilone is the only thing that works for my daughter's eczema. When she was a little baby, she was finally given some, and it cleared up within a week (only to return with a vengeance b/c the source of the eczema hadn't been removed). When I called for a refill, they prescribed a higher dosage of it, and it worked SO well.
We also switched her from baby soap products to Lever 2000 as suggested by her allergist. She'd developed impetigo on her knees from the eczema, and we were told that Lever 2000 (or any antibacterial soap) would help prevent something like that when her eczema got bad. I know this wouldn't stop your son's eczema, but it might help prevent any other infections that could happen from scratching and oozing.
We stick to non-fragrance moisturizing lotion.
Best wishes!

I found with my daughter the best thing was oatmeal baths and Aveeno stress relief mosturizing lotion. The lotion has oatmeal in it and acually calms her down when it's really bothering her. When she uses it she tends to be less itchy and the redness goes away quickly. I would swear by any Aveeno product.

Eucerin cream works really well on my son. I also use gentle baby washes that contain oatmeal.

Both of my sons have it. (my 2 year old has it much worse - it seems like my 7 year old kinda grew out of it around age 3, although he still has little areas every now and then)... here are some things that have really worked for me:
Triamcinolone or Desonide (be careful though - it is a steroid so it has special precautions).
Try changing your laundry soap to a dye-free & fragrance-free brand.
Don't overbathe... our pediatrician says to bathe every other day since water actually dries out the skin (wierd, huh?) ; pat dry and lotion the skin immediately **cetaphil and eucerin work GREAT**.
And finally, consider allergy testing - we recently found out that our son is allergic to several food items which result in skin rash (sometimes confused with an eczema flare-up)
Hope this helps. Good luck!

Quoting Tami:
My little boy has eczema as well. His pediatrician prescribed an ointment of .025% triamcinilone (probably spelled that wrong) and it's working really well for him. I also use Mustela dermopediatrics products, there is one called stelatopia and they make a bath cleansing cream and a lotion and they both help as well.
ya the triamcinolone works really well... i have had bad eczema my whole life, but that seems to thin it out and improve the look. my daughter just has patches on her legs. cortizone works for the itch tho if its not all over

I use Arbonne products on my kids. their excema went away almost over night. I did not want to put any steriod creams on my kids to thin their skin. The Arbonne Baby Care Body Oil with no synthetic oils is sooooo great.

My daughter suffers from it as well and when she has a flair up I give her an oatmeal bath to soothe the itch. I know it sounds gross, but I fill her tub with warm water and put about 2 cups of oats in the water and mix. I even grab a handful of oats and make a paste and smear it on the bad areas and then rinse her with the water. It seems to work best if I do it before bedtime so she can sleep, but I have also done it whenever it flares up.
