Having Potty Training Issues/help?

I feel your pain! My son is 2, will be 3 in october and we have been working on potty training since he turned 2.. It has been a long several months! He hated going to the potty, but recently about 3 weeks ago, my husband sat him down and told him that we were going to the store to pick out big boy underwear and that he could choose anyone he wanted, and we are going to start to go potty in the toilet like a big boy! haha we had been doing the pull-ups for awhile.. anyways ever since he just totally got it! It's like a switch went off in his mind and now he tells me when he has to go, no problem! We're working on #2 now :) Thats a whole nother story! Maybe your lil guy is just not ready?? Hello! I have a 2 year old son also, he'll be 3 in December. HE will go to the pot to pee but never #2!! Pleeeeeeaseee... I also have a 3 year old & he is potty trained but why is it so hard for him to go? He has to do it for me!...I think.. (-:

Every child is different too. I was told that boys were harder than girls, but my eldest boy trained like a breeze. He was 2.5yo and only had occational accidents. My youngest boy turned 3 in April and just now has started potty training. I have tried other times, but it just didn't work. I'll pass on what someone once told me: no child has ever gone to college still needing diapers! Good luck.

Amanda, thanks you did give me a good idea because i was thinking maybe it needs to be my husband to do it with him. It seems that whenever my husband tells him to sit on the potty, he immediately does it. Thanks i will definitely try it...

Try making it a game. Put some fruit loops in the bowl and get him to pee on them. My son hated sitting down to pee. The way I got my son to start peeing on the potty, and he was almost four, let grandpa do it. As a mom it is harder for us to train boys as we don't have the same parts. While we were renovating my brothers house my son said he had to pee. Well there was not running water at the time well not bathroom at all so his grandpa took him outside and they peed together in the bush. Worked like a charm. WIthin three weeks he was fully potty trained, number one and number two, even at night he never went in his pull up, but we kept in on just in case. If his dad or someone is willing to let him watch, I know most men don't want to, but it does help. They have the same equipment and they can see what it does and how to do it. I hope you find something that works just hang in there.

My daughter was the same, it was so much easier. He is actually sitting on the potty more now but i'm hoping he will get interested. The one we have also attaches to the toilet as well. Thanks for your comment :)

I let my daughter play with her potty for months before I started trying to potty train her. She just turned 2 in May and is almost potty trained. (Just diapers at night!)
We kept the potty in the living room. Her potty was the kind that could sit on the ground or attach to the toilet. She ended up preferring being on the toilet. I think it helped letting her play with the potty for a while and get used to it so she wasn't scared or anything by it. And once he can tell you he has to pee is a really good sign to start pushing it.

Thank you Katherine, i guess i should wait then. My daughter thankfully got it pretty fast but Gabriel is just not having it and i would rather wait then have it backfire on me.

If he is not ready try again in a few months. If you force him it will just back fire. My oldest when she was three started at 18 months (my mother did this) while she was watching them and she had accidents until she was 5. In fact she still has the occasional accident.
