River is 1 year old and just taken away his dummy (pacifier). He is doing great and sleeps through the night but wakes up at 450am and can't get back to sleep. So he screams and I cuddle him for 40mins, putting him back in his cot, then taking him out again for a cuddle when he goes ultrasonic.

BUT - the alarm goes off at 6am - as soon as he has his milk he is fine. So should I just give him his milk at 5 and put him back to sleep and try moving it later every day, or should I stick it out?

Guys - thanks so much - it's what I wanted to do - but all the books and the health visitor told me not to give in so that he learns to sleep through to 6.

Erin - I really like your idea with the sippy cup - I'm doing that tonight! River has bit of a cough at the moment (so do I - all the cold weather and central heating) and I'm sure having a drink there will help =)

I would give him his milk earlier - anything to help calm him and perhaps he'll fall back asleep for you. It may help soothe him since he doesn't have his pacifier anymore. Plus, he may be waking up a little hungry if he is going through a growth spurt. My son used to do that so I would always make sure he got a healthy snack an hour before bedtime.

Hi Nisha,

My daughter is 1 yr and 2 months old and she still wakes up two or three times during the night for a bottle of milk. She will drink it and go back to sleep again, but it is hard to keep getting woke up like that. I just deal with it and figure as she gets older she will grow out of it. I would just give him the milk and let him fall back to sleep. Good luck!

my son is 18 months and still sometime wakes up..he was doing really bad there for awhile...and i was getting NO sleep what so ever when he was at a age of sleeping allnight..so what i did was before i went to bed i filled is sippy with milk or water..(milk is know to rot their teeth, but he still has his baby teeth) i would put it in his crib next to his pillow. he knows that it is there so if he wakes up in the middle of the night for a drink..it is already there so he doesnt have to scream and wake me up and i am finally now getting a better night sleep..sometimes he doesnt even wake up anymore cause in the morning his sippy is still full..now also sometimes if he does wake up and cant find his sippy he will scream and when i go into him i just give him his sippy and he is back to sleep...this method has seem to helped the both of us get more sleep cause he is waking up less frequent and if he does wake ..he knows where is sippy is so he doesnt have to scream for me and wake himself up even more..this is what helped me and my son get better sleep ..its not a permanent thing cause eventually there is gonna be potty training and breaking him of goin to bed with a sippy but it helps for now...try this is could help you both get better sleep...good-luck.

I would just give him his milk when he wakes up and wants it. What issue do you have with doing so?
