What seems to be easier with potty training a boy... sitting and holding his peepee down or standing up and aiming??

What a topic you moms are discussing about, "boys stand or sit to pee"! So let me tell you some thing then, not bad if you know that in my culture the male people avoid pissing while standing! In my country it's so, as my religion has recommended not to pee while standing, and to do it while sitting or squatting. I know there, they teach the kid when he can stand up, how to pee while standing, but it's not so here. However, I am male and quite healthy, but I don't pee while standing. You should consider that there are many different ways and theologies around the world.

To my own, peeing while standing is a nasty actions, also it does not feet a man's character, that's like you imagine a respectable man standing up still some where, his penis is out and his piss line in front of him! Who made the rule that males MUST stand up while urinating? And don't relate it to the nature, potentially many things are natural as an ability; one can bring it out (gun), aim and kill, but he has choosing power, although he has the ability, but he may not do it if he is sane; one can just bring it out, aim and piss, but does it mean he can not do it in a way but that?

Why stand to pee? Why aim? Aiming is for the time when you are distant to your target and can't be close to it, but when you can be close to it, and if you are sane, you prefer being close to your target than aiming to the target. So sit down and be relax, the name of the place you are doing that in, is rest room! And why you waste your time and energy in cleaning bathrooms? You can save it for more useful affairs by reducing the need of bathroom to be cleaned!

As for those who say "peeing while standing is of a few pleasures of a man!", I should say that a man is more valuable than way of peeing places as his pleasure and property! It does not fit a man to consider that as his worth! Men have more valuable special abilities to be mentioned! And as for those who say "peeing while standing is much easier than doing it while sitting or squatting", I should say that bending over and pulling down pants, and keeping a part of panties down for a while and aim for a while both need an attempt; and the fact that which one is easier for a person depends on habit. The way in which one's habit is based on, is easier for that one, and to which you habit, it will be easier for you! As God has made the ability of peeing while standing easily in guys, it must have an advantage, and yes it has. In men's jobs some times urgent situations happen, and some times they have to do some thing in a short time when the speed is important, and some times men have situations that they can't sit or squat or are in places where sitting or squatting is not easily possible; in such times they can use their ability of peeing while standing easily. But these urgent times just some times happen, not always! So I think there should be a project for men to stop, or to say better, manage peeing while standing. One group are already doing that and their site is: http://www.mapsu.org . As I mentioned, there are some occations when it's needed to pee standing up, then it happens for both men and women! So what should women do? So easy, they can instantly pee standing up using a small device, one is here: http://www.travelmateinfo.com/page002.ht... .

However, it will be great if the current way of peeing of guys in toilets and bathrooms, in the most parts of the world changes.

my son just turned 3 at 2 and a half we started training him to sit on the potty and that worked great but now that he has mastered that he stands his aim is still off and most of the time he pees on the floor but if he stands on the stool he has a better aim. one thing dont let him pee outside my hubby showed mine how and know no matter where we are at he whips it out.

Well for us... peepee dpon works with my 2 year old. depending on the potty he sits on we will tell him peepee down and he does a great job pointing his pepee down. i did not have luck with standing and aiming because boys get to distracted and then you have a mess to clean.

We're doing the "hold your peepee down" method, and it is working, we haven't even tried standing up yet.

For my kids sitting is easier for now...this is also helpful in case they decide they hafta go number 2...this could be a disaster if standing up as they're still learning the concept of what the urge feels like and when to get to the potty

Quoting Wanda:

Donna, i've never heard of the "Weeman", where did you get it? Since I'll be tackling potty training soon, it sounds like a great way to get my little man started.

Here's a US link I've just found for the Weeman: http://www.boystoilettrainer.com/

Im starting off with the sit down method. Once he gets that part down, then introduce the stand up and aim method. Good luck!

we started with the sitting, it was easy for me. he came home from his dads house after a few months of beong trained, and he was standing up. i assume he was watching his dad, because he was watching my husband (who has been a great father and did the inicial potty training) everytime he went to the bathroom. hope this helps.

While they are still learning how to aim I recommend putting them on the toilet backwards. It sounds strange, but its easier to retrain them later to stand up. I worked in a preschool and had quite a few two year old boys who were newly potty trained. This technique worked wonders. I hope it helps.

All my boys startted potty trainning in grandma's back yard. But at home they all wanted to sit. Can be messy, but thats how they perfered. As long as they were trying, I was happy. Show him both ways, and see which is easiest for him.

There is a product called the peter potty which is a toddler sized urinal, that can be wall mounted or stand on the floor. It helps teach them to stand and how to aim. You can check it out online by googling peter potty. These are really neat. I plan on getting my son one. My sister trained my nephew with one. That is how I heard about it.

my oldest ( who is 4 now) stood up to go and my youngest still sits and points. one because my oldest is very tall and he peepee was bigger at 2 than my younger son. and my youngest has short legs and his lil peepee is just that...too lil to point really. (but he's 2) my mother in law said my hubby sat on the potty to pee until he was five! lol so its all on them, however they feel comfortable!

Get something like the "Weeman", it's a toilet training device for boys. It's a molded cup that hooks onto the side of the toilet. After it's used, you just lift the cup and the pee is poured into the toilet. They learn to pee standing (why bother training to pee sitting and then having to train again to stand?), but there is no mess. My eldest son was toilet trained this way at 2 years old. Daddy showed him how to pee into it the first time and that was it. The way the cup is molded, when they stand in front of it, even if they don't hold their willy there is no mess. It was a fantastic tool to have and made life so easy! (no, I don't sell the product or have any affiliation with it... I'm just a huge fan)

After he gets used to using the Weeman, then you can start working on how to hold the willy. My husband did all that, because I figured it was his job since I do everything else.

After they get the hang of peeing whilst standing, then you can transition to peeing in the toilet using something as a target. My cousin used Cheerios for her son and I had a Wee Target. There will still be a few misses, but not many.

Good luck!

I also taught my son to sit and first and when he was ready to stand (with stool at big toilet) he did it on his own.

My son is now three, at home he still sits when he needs to peepee but only because the toilet is still a little high and he refuses to stand on a stool. he however stands at the creche because they have this little toilets. i know he will eventually manage to stand at home just like his daddy and he will be fine. to me it was about how much mess i had to clean up. when he learnt to stand at home on the stool i had to help with his aim and he got annoyed as he wants to be a big boy and do it himself. I guess whatever your son is comfortable with is what is most important.

Sitting at first - especially since they'll be sitting a lot in the beginning. Eventually they'll want to stand up like daddy, but make sure they are tall enough to reach over the rim. Otherwise, get a little stool for them to stand on. My son likes standing up but I need to make sure I am there to supervise his aim.

SITTING! well, it might not be easier to train but it is much easier to clean up after. both my boys learned to pee standing up peeing on a tree...but they are both natural and their foreskin would sometimes get in the way causing an arch...that would hit the wall, the back of the toilet, sometimes in the middle of the night they'd just pee anywhere, with their eyes closed, even the garbage can...
well if they have to sit to pee, then they can't miss the toilet, and its SO much cleaner!! my toilet no longer stinks like urine all the time. there is never any pee on the floor.

Patricia, do you have him hold his peepee or just stand and go? And stand and go into the 'adult' toilet or a toddler potty chair?

My son is almost 3 now and he prefers to stand up. I like this better that him sitting because when he used to sit it would make a mess all over the toilet seat. At first I was thinking he was too young for this but we tried it and it turned out to be pretty easy for him. We practiced by putting fruit loops in and aiming.
