Being bilingual will give your kid a better chance to find a well paid job. The sooner he/she is exposed, the better and the easier. How about French? A teacher and her puppet gives short 15 minutes download lessons lessons on www.ludo-lidia.com. Check the demo: http://youtu.be/12SRvsY5LTo

I wish I would have heard about babies sign language ( I think that's what you meant) when my daughter was a baby. You are also right about Spanish in the US. French is easy once you learned Spanish, both being Latin languages. Have a great day

I think teaching young children to speak more than one language is a great idea. I think the best languages to start with are American Sign Language and Spanish. ASL is great for kids who haven't not learned how to use their words yet. Spanish is the best option right now for getting a head start in the job department. Most places want you to be able to speak and understand spanish, as the spanish speaking population is on the rise.

Hi, thanks for responding. Your response is what most people think but i am afraid that they are wrong. The brain acquires " speaking" abilities BEFORE the age of 6. this happens by mimicking what the child hears and does not involve studying of course. The child just repeats. So, if you expose him/her before this ability stops then he/she will do the same as for his/her mother tongue. After, it's the "learning" process that kicks in and thus it's more difficult. A child exposed to another language will become a perfect bilingual. Just look at Hispanic kids who have their parents speak Spanich at home. they don't "learn" it, they just do it without questions. By showing kids, cartoons in another language or by playing foreing songs as early as possible, it will be easier for them. Believe me. I have been teaching toddlers for 25 years and the results are amazing. It's done in a fun way and they just copy what they hear making their accent much less noticable later on. My daughter speaks 3 languages as she was exposed from birth to them. I hope this helps to convince you that there is no " too soon" for this

That is a good idea!

But I think that only kids over age 8 should learn a new language, as before then, they're still learning their first language.

Still, It's a nice idea, and sure is worthwhile.
