We're getting ready to celebrate our youngest daughter's 1st birthday, and I'm asking around to find out what things have worked and what don't! We live in a tiny house in a small town with not many things to do and a large extended family made up of mostly adults... Thanks for your tips! : )

We had it in my in-laws' backyard. There were puppet shows, bubble show and games for the older kids. We also dressed our girl in tinkerbell outfit. Family and friends were present and it was so much fun. Best of all, I didn't have to clean up 'coz it was part of the services offered by the party planner. Whew!

We had a party at home with close friends and family. I baked a cake in number one shape. It was not that great but the guests liked it. I bought lots of number 1 shaped big balloons ( I guess they call it foil balloon) from MyBirthdaySupplies and hung them from the ceiling. We ordered food from a takeaway. I didn’t have much of cutlery with me, so I ordered disposable from the same store. They were good. Why don’t you check with them if they will be able to deliver to your town?

We had ours in our apartment. Just burgers, potato salad, chips, and cake. Malikyte had his own smash cake and the adults had a big one.

Keep it simple and everybody will be happy. For my sons - and we live in a small town, too - we invited everyone to the local pizza parlor where we had reserved a room. We ordered a lot of pizzas, so we got a good deal on them. I brought the homemade cake, guests brought gifts and pizza staff got to clean up the mess. Sharing this day with those who love your child is what's important. Have a great day with your child!

With both of my boys first birthdays I had 2 cakes, one for the guests and one my bubs, they get to dig in and eat it they way they love to, smashing with their hands, it's a great laugh too! And it's something they can all do really well, makes them feel special! Just watch out for the clean up, so worth it but!

we had a party at home with the family, with food for adults and my baby,a few games, kids songs, and lots of cake, it you have a small house try having the party both inside and outside, you dont have to go overboard and go to reserve a spot, even if its just a small amount of the family, just do what will make your baby happy

I made sure all of his family & cousins were there, we did it @ my house, no need to spend tons on renting a place, they won't remember anyway. We had food and I had a personal cake made for him to tear into! His party was Mickey Mouse Club House (Fav. Show) so we ordered a banner "Happy 1st Birthday Kaleb". I organized goodie bags and games for the older cousins & younger ones. We really just relaxed & enjoyed the day. At that age you dont want to plan anything to structured..I just wanted him to have fun!

We had our sons 1st Birthday at the park.We got one of the shelter houses and decorated it a bit-we made some food for everybody since most of our guests were traveling over an hour to join us.Then we done cake&ice cream-and opened gifts.I think it turned out really good for his 1st birthday. They're too young to understand whats going on so whatever you plan will be FINE! Don't stress yourself out over it this year-just take it easy...There will be PLENTY of birthdays to come where they expect the works! lol

We had a huge Princess Theme Party for her 1st birthday. We hired an entertainment company to keep the kids entertained throughout the party. Make sure you have alchohol and great food for the adults.

I would suggest keeping it small and scheduling it for after nap time!! My son had more fun playing with the wrapping paper and tissue than his gifts! Oh, he also loved playing in the mini cake I made just for him! He loved the balloons we blew up and put on the floor. It seems like the simplest things made him happy! Don't stress out to much, your little one can tell! Take tons of pics and make sure you get out from behind the camera and get into some of the pics! Have fun!

The best advise I can give you is to have the party early around 12:00pm. My husband and I have twin and we made the mistake of having their party around 2 or 3, can't remember and boy was it drama. We had a bunch of cranky 1 - 2 year olds. We did have the party at our house which was good, but the children was cranky because they needed a nap. The next year we had the party at 12 and things went perfect. After the party they had nap time and things were good. Our children our now 4 and their party has started at 12:00pm every since...lol. Hope things work out.

We had our lil girls 1st bday at a park, in a shelter house and are getting ready to celebreate her 2nd bday at the same place. Her party guests were mostly adults as well, so we had 2 cakes 1 was free from Jayc food store (i know walmart does free cakes for babys 1st bday as well) and she ate some cake, and played with wrapping paper from her gifts, she played with her gifts too. She had overall a good day. Then we had simple food, that she would eat as well like ham and cheese sandwiches, potato salad and stuff like that.

Good luck!

We had planned on a party at Chuck E Cheese but because they were so busy, we moved it to the neighborhood park and he couldn't have been happier. We had some pizza, gifts, and he had a blast digging into his cake. And with it being outside, cleanup was a breeze. He and his brother and cousins chased each other around, played on the slide, and had a great time. It was pretty windy but all in all it was a really good day. Actually, my profile pic is from that day :)

We had some family and friends over. There were 4 kids all aged 2 and under so they just played with toys. We had grilled cheese and gold fish crackers for the kids and hot dogs and hamburgers for the adults. The adults played one game in which they guessed the age of my daughter in all of her monthly pictures. Then we all watched my daughter attack her cake and enjoyed some cake and ice cream our selves. She opened her presents and by that time the kids were exhausted and it was time for Savannah's second nap so everyone said their good byes and that was that. Now we're planning her 2nd birthday party for December.

If you can have it outside, that's the best way to do it with a large family & not be too overwhelming for the children inside a small house. Or have everyone meet out for dinner at the child's favorite place & keep it simple. Simple is the key @ that age really.

we had a party for Danika, with lots of fairy bread, lollies and balloons :) it was heaps of fun for her. a good tip is to have some alcohol for the adults if there is going to be a heap of them there, and some party games for the kids will keep them entertained.
