I'm having trouble getting my five year old to stop sucking his finger. He just started Kindergarten its not a big deal right now but I know that later on down the road he will get bullied because of it. Any advice is welcome thanks.

My daughter was a thumb sucker and I tried, hot souce, a nail polish call thumbit you polish the whole thumb whilte they sleeping, it took a while but she stoped. I also had a old Lady friend of the family that she nevers sees told her if you keep sucking your thumb I wil come to your house and cut it off and feed it to my cat. Boy that was it. Hope it help.

my mom put hot sauce on my thumbs for a couple days and i stopped for good..

Thanks for the advice but that finger has got to go. It's ok if he replaces it with something else but I'm tired of that finger. Its really not that bad he only does it when he's sleepy but still I want it gone.

He does have a younger brother but he does not suck his fingers he sleeps with his bottom lip in his mouth. He does like carrot sticks so I guess I can try that. Thanks for the help!

I can tell you, I sucked my thumb until I was 12.
It is their security. If they stop that, they will soon find something else to fill that spot and it might be something not so good.
Suggest to your 5 yr old that he probably should not suck his thumb at school, Keep that for at home.

Lisa, that's a tough one, if he were younger I'd say he's still teething. Could he be imitating a younger sibling? How would he do with carrying around celery or carrot sticks to munch on?
