How do you get a 12 month old on a sippy cup?

With my first I was able to hold off most of the day and then she finally gave in. By that I mean we didn't give her a bottle and she finally took the sippy cup one dday. With my second though it seems I have to hold her and rock her and I don't want to continue that! So I have tries to hold out as I did and cut her off from the bottle cold turkey but it seems much harder with her.
Any suggestions?

thank you everyone! I am trying all the suggestions and I will see what works. My first was so much easier all we did was go cold turkey! and it worked! Sophia is much more stubborn than Julia!

most sippy cups have a little valve inside that you can take off. what I did the first time I gave it to my daughter is take off the valve so the water comes through much easier rather then her actually having to suck the water out. I did that for about two days (I had to hold the cup for her meantime) then she realized it herself and that was it. tryit it maybe it works for you as well. Good luck

With my first daughter we took a bottle feeding away per meal. We started with the morning bottle and we replaced it with a sippy cup. As she got used to that then we took away her lunch bottle and then the last one was the hardest the evening bottle. With my second I was a little smarter or maybe she was easier. I started giving a sippy cup with meals early on. I would give her water or water and juice combo. Sometimes she would drink and other times she wouldn't. Then shortly after she turned one I just gave her the sippy cup from morning until night. I was waiting to see if she complained. She didn't fuss do I just continued with the sippy cup and never looked back.

I breastfeed my son, and I got a kidney stone when he was 9 mths old and we went to the bottle. He was use to warm milk from me and would not take his bottle. So I would get the milk in the bottle warm. When we went to the sippy cup it still has to be heated he will not drink cold milk. Make sure if you give her milk that its just the same as her bottle. Let her see you make a bottle and pour it in the sippy cup. With my son on his first birthday we set the date that there would be no more bottle and he has not had one since. Put away all your bottles so she cant see one or pull one out. Go cold Turkey!!!

Not sure if you would want to do this or not. But do you think it would help to keep her on a morning bottle and an evening bottle for awhile? Then as she started drinking more from the sippy cut out either both bottles or just the AM and leave the evening one for a little bit longer. When she has the bottles then do the rocking with her. Kind of transistioning her into the next phase.

i suggest trying a soft nippled sippy cup with some juice. the juice is better tasting so she might take it better....i just started this with my 9 month old. good luck

we used the Nuby 3 stage feeding system...It has a nipple like a bottle but it is on a sippy cup...then you can graduate her to the sippy cup lid and then onto the straw lid...it was a pretty east transition since you are basically using the same cup that tehy recognize but just a different topper...good luck! here is the link to the 3 stage feeding system
