Have you had a relaxed conversation about it when there isn't pressure to go? Maybe when you're done reading his bedtime book (or after some nonthreating routine) you just ask "Why don't you like going potty?" Being preschool age, he just might be able to tell you. I knew a boy who was 3 and wasn't potty trained, I finally just asked him why and he said the potty was too big, and he didn't like the noise of the flusher. His mom got him a little pottyseat and let him leave the room before flushing it. Maybe he can tell you what his hang up is. Just remember timing is everything, asking should probably not be done when you are trying to persuade him to go to the bathroom. Just an idea.

lol the cherios only work for boys for some reason.. good luck but remember its only one of two things that they as a kid get to control, the other one is food so try to get on their level

I created the potty piggy. My son and I went out and bought a piggy bank thats just for when he uses the potty. He gets one quarter for poopie and two for peepee. He has a harder time telling me pee than poopie for some reason. At the end of the week he gets to empty his piggy and go and buy any surprise he wants. It's working pretty well. That and sinking cheerios.

i told my child i was tired of changing her butts and when i got home from surgery last year she made the choice to help me by using the potty. its up to the child not us parents, so think on his level and try to understand why he's just not comfy yet, and take it from there

Honestly I would say put him in underwear and if he has an accident make him change himself. He won't like how any of it feels and will get tired of having to change himself.
There is a book you can download, The Potty Book Camp by Suzanne Riffel.
No matter what you do, DO NOT yell at him for having an accident. Praise, Praise, and even more Praise. To reward my boys for going I gave them 1 piece of candy when they went in the toilet. It was something small like 1 M&M or a Smartie. Good luck. I'm trying to get my 2 year old, boy, interested in it.
