Just got a tricycle for my boy. Wondering how to get him to pedal. He's just putting his feet on the ground and pushing the bike around that way...

I had a hard time teaching my son. I kept telling him to put his feet on the pedals and push them with his feet so that they would go around and around. I would even hold his feet on the pedals and help him turn them. He didn't really get it until he was 3. Now that he is 3 1/2 he is getting better at it, but he's still unable to go fast or for long distances. It requires a lot of gross motor development that simply takes time. Just keep practicing.

pushing it around teaches them direction. you can help them by putting their feet on the petals & helping them 'push down'. the more exagerated the more they get it. get some rest b4 hand~ mine can take off down the block & we are still learning to STOP!!!

My daughter got a tricycle for christmas '08....she was almost 2 yrs old(bday is 3/17). It was the Radio Flyer one with the handle that I could use to push her and help steer...it's the BEST THING EVER!!! She just turned 3 and just started to pedal on her own. She'll only pedal short distances though.
